At this point, the odds of him making the World Cup have to be near 50-50 I would think. The article makes it seem like more, but I think they are painting a picture a little brighter than it actually is. That said, its amazing what athletes' bodies can achieve compared to normal bodies. This is truly a remarkable recovery so far.

We need him desperately to be 100% if we want to do well post-group stage.

I realized that quite quickly after I realized what happened with Stafon Johnson would have killed anyone but an athlete like him, and now he's about to participate in the Senior Bowl. Absolutely unbelievable.Laley23 wrote: That said, its amazing what athletes' bodies can achieve compared to normal bodies.

If he could play in World Cup that would be awesome. I still don't know who they would replace him with, because Ching is not an option. Also have Gooch and Dempsey recovering from injuries.

Dempsey should be fine. He is looking to make his return to Fulham in April.

I heard they expect him back on the field in April giving him about 2 months before the world cup. Lets hope he can be atleast 90% going into group play. Our group is manageable even without Davies giving him almost another 2 weeks to recover.

I would love to have Davies back in time for England, but I am more concerned with getting Gooch back and fit in time for the tournament. I don't think his rehab will be much of an issue, but getting on the field for Milan certainly is. Before his injury he was still yet to see action in Serie A play. I just don't see where the playing time would be coming from aside from spot substitutions here and there. If the US is going to advance in South Africa they will have to do it with defense, and the back line isn't quite the same without gooch at full speed. Bradley won't have much time to get him up to that level.

Gooch going to Milan was the worst choice he ever made. I wouldnt be surprised if he simply didnt play much in the WC. His situation is opposite of what Robinho is going through. Robinho wants to go to a lesser club so he can play consistently and be ready for the WC. Gooch went up in level and (granted hes been injured) was not going to see the field. His form was destined to drop quite a bit leading up to the WC.

I was really hoping that Milan would put him out on loan during the winter transfer period just so that he could play somewhere, even if it meant sending him to Serie B, to a club like Torino or even Sassuolo. But the injury really destroyed any hope of that happening.Laley23 wrote: Gooch going to Milan was the worst choice he ever made. I wouldnt be surprised if he simply didnt play much in the WC. If Gooch doesnt play much in the WC (which I think he will be a 90 minute player during the WC) then the US has 0 chance to advance beyond the first round of the KO stage. Gooch did make a bad choice to go to Milan but he is still the US's best defender. Our defense is decent at best right now and is weak on the left back with Bornstein. We need a new left back and some decent depth at that position.
