Going to pick him up now. He's an 80-lb. Great Dane/Pitbull mix. He's GOTTA be feeling it.
Is there any unique maintenance for a large dog post-op?

I hope that he's not a smart dog. With a mix like that, you might wanna protect "your assets". I for one may be afraid to sleep at nights

Why did you have him neutered? Was he pissing all over the furniture? You really should have had him euthanized.

I JUST picked our dog up for getting this done as well. Weird that we would choose the (supposed) most depressing day of the year to have this done, lol.

Somehow, we have to tie this thread to your favorite form of birth control thread. Wait, I just did.

I love him. He's got the height and sheer size of a Dane and the muscle structure of a Pit.

how old is he?
it'd be smarter to do it earlier because i think you pay for the pound for the anesthesia.

Dog got neutered today? Otrap, does this mean that your kids will have to be fathered by someone else?

I was lucky with my pup(now 88 lb black lab) he just laid around all day afterward. We had it done when he was just a little older than a year old. IMO we waited too long, but my ex was thinking about breeding him. So when we broke up, his balls left with her.

That's when my vet wanted to take care of it, but we waited. I have always heard it's harder on the dog if you until they are older; but Walker did fine. And it really did calm him down a bit.O-Trap wrote: He's 6 months old.

I had both my dogs neutered at about 6 months of age. One is a Rot who will be 4 in June and the other is a beagle mix who will be a year in April. Neither lift their legs to pee. They both squat. I have since researched this and if they don't start lifting their leg before you get them neutered they probably never will. My rot will sometimes lift is leg maybe two inches off the ground but he never ever pees on the tree's or fence or anything. My Golden who is not fixed pee's everywhere on everything if it is outside. Never goes much in one spot. The other two will pee forever in one spot. Especially if I have not been home all day. If I had known this would happen I would not have them fixed this young.

I'm getting my St. Bernard done next week. His name is Walker too. I named him after the one and only Texas Ranger.wildcats20 wrote:That's when my vet wanted to take care of it, but we waited. I was gonna breed him and so I waited. Now he is 18 months old and 180 lbs.
