So last night...I'm laying in bed...it's about 10:30. My fiance runs in and is like "I'm hearing a lot of sirens...sounds like something is going on outside." I wake up, look out the window and yes there are a lot of flashing lights, but I shake it off and go back to bed (not really much else I can do). This morning, my fiance's mom calls and says...there was a guy shot in East Columbus, and I swear the housing development looks like yours. I get online and check it out...sure enough...five houses down the road from me a guy was shot and killed by two guys who fled in a car.

Kinda scary. We just moved here (Canal Winchester)...I was just starting to feel good about the neighborhood. I'm really hoping it wasn't two guys randomly breaking into a place...hopefully there was a previous incident between the two parties that transpired. I don't want two guys randomly breaking in to homes around where I live!

Might be time to invest in a gun.

Random murders are extremely rare. It is most common for the subjects to have known each other.

...people aren't safe anywhere these days. Last Saturday morning a woman was killed while she was walking out of Church (St. Dominicks) in Youngstown by some fucking thug who robbed her & shot her in the head. This woman was a cancer survivor and went to Church daily & winds up dying because of some piece of shit who'll probably never be caught.

I read about this. A true random murder and an awful story.

I saw this. Was she around 80 years old?

Of course it's not in all cases and yes violence happens randomly. It's is specifically murder whereby it is not common for the victim to have not known the murderer. 4cards gave recent example where that wasn't the case.

2 weeks after buying my home..which everyone told me not to b/c of the neighborhood..I came home from work and the next door neighbor was outside. She proceeded to tell me about how someone tried to break into her home with a gun that night. It was just her kids home. Luckily they were able to fend him off. The husband owned a business..turned out it was just a disgruntled employee that he fired a couple weeks earlier.

I mean...if someone breaks in to my house and has a gun...By all means take what you want. haha

If I have a gun, I'll probably close the door to my bedroom...let them take whatever outside the room, but if they come through that door, I'm filling them with lead. I'm just always scared that if I go out and confront them, there will be more than I anticipated, and I could shoot two of them, but if there is three, I'm screwed.

I have many guns but for home protection I would recommend a 12 gauge pump. I know if I heard the sound of a shell be loaded in a pump shotgun I would be gone. If they don't leave you don't have to aim that well. Just point and shoot.

...You're 100% right Darkon! There is NO MISTAKING the sound of a round being pumped by a 12 ga. I caught a guy trying to rob the vending machines at work years ago (midnight shift) and all he heard was me pumping a round in & he froze until the cops arrived.

Funny story about that.

When my mom and dad first got married, they lived in this trailer with a narrow hallway. He showed her how to load the 12 gauge and told her to use it if anyone ever were to break in when he wasn't there. She replied "But I don't have very good aim."...He said "you just point it down that hallway and you're gonna kill whoever is coming this way." haha

Ironic, my wife and I were just talking about getting a gun last night because of a recent rash of burglaries not too close to us, but near enough. Based off of the news reports I don't live too far from baseballstud24. We will be getting a gun or 10 right away.

Or they know where you are and where to shoot. This is probably the heaviest debated item in the home defense tactical training circles.

I'm of the mindset that if you are in my home and hear the sound of the shotgun rack, that means I already fired off 1 shot.

We have a dog, that I swear never sleeps. She barks at anybody that is approaching the house. Seems like it doesn't matter which direction, she can hear it. That's a good first line of defense.

If somebody is breaking into your house with a gun, they don't mean to be a "nicey-nice" thief.
