The director for the new Spider man movie will be.......................Marc Webb. Who is Marc Webb you might ask well he directed 500 days of summer. Also Tobey Maguire will not be returing for his role as Peter Parker. Also I read that this could be a reboot and not really Spider Man 4

It is a reboot. And probably won't be good at all.

I agree 100%. It is funny how the producers went from a cash cow to whatever this is. Sony must be very put off by this.

It means Raimi is out, Tobey is out, Dunst is out, the whole cast is out and they are starting the direction and storyline from scratch. I'd like to be optimistic, but this doesn't look good.

Read somewhere it might be based when Parker was in high school

From what I understand that was Raimi's idea. I could be wrong...at any rate the Spider Man franchise may be looking at a complete overhaul.

The best way to describe "reboot" is you had Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, enter REBOOT, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight.

This has complete "BUST" written all over it. Why do a reboot? The Spiderman franchise was probably the best comic-book film series (until the new Batman reboot).

Seems weird to be doing it now. I would at least try and squeeze one more movie out of it

Yeah I agree for the most part, the only thing I can pin this on is that Spiderman 3 sucked so bad that the goodwill is gone and people don't want to see Tobey and Dunst. It seems to me that a redo is going to be hugely expensive, but who knows?

Raimi left because he couldn't make the deadline release that Sony wanted, the cast left after he quit.

Yeah, it's a shame.. He was forced to do too much with Spiderman 3 and while it wasn't a bad movie by any means, it was a fail compared to the previous 2...

I wished the original cast would return, but this looks to be a sad, sad, attempt if it comes to be.. Spiderman has always been my favorite "comic superhero" so maybe they should let the series die off completely..

"He was forced to do too much with Spiderman 3 and while it wasn't a bad movie by any means,"

I'm going to disagree, it wasn't "Batman and Robin" bad, but it was still a very disappointing movie. We didn't see it in the theater due to the poor reviews but on dvd my wife actually fell asleep watching it and I struggled to get through it. The villains were terrible, the musical sequences were odd and there was zero chemistry between Maguire and Dunst, unlike Spiderman 2 .

Spiderman 3 ruined the series for me as it was so God awful I can't blame them for doing a reboot. But if it is just based on the early high school days of Peter Parker, my interest is already declined.
