This is awfully sad. Gaines was a unanimous All-American DE at Clemson. He was only 26 years old.

Very sad news. I was very happy when the Bears picked him up and was hoping he would become as dominating as he was in college.

Sad story, but he was a complete bust IMO.

First of all, you're a piece of shit for even saying that this soon, aside from the fact that you're totally wrong.lhslep134 wrote: Sad story, but he was a complete bust IMO.
Another one goes too early...hate to see news like this. Prayers to his family and teammates. I for one thought he was a pretty damn good player.

If you consider "found dead" to be taken to a hospital and passing away, then you are correct, but I think you could edit your thread title.

lhslep probably interviewed him at one time in his life.

Okay, so because he died I have to feel that he wasn't a bust? Because he died I'm not allowed to express my opinion? Didn't this debate already take place on the Chris Henry thread?
It's extremely sad and tragic he died, but what does that have to do with the fact that he, imo, was a bust?
SQ, explain how I'm completely wrong about him being a bust? For me to be completely wrong, he would have to be the complete opposite of a bust, which he wasn't.
You guys need to take your panties out a bunch.

A little early for that, and I didn't say you were completely wrong, I believe I called you a POS.

Is this the same kind of POS that you are for being openly racist?SQ_Crazies wrote: A little early for that, and I didn't say you were completely wrong, I believe I called you a POS.

Believe it or not SQ, but just because someone dies, doesn't mean everything said about him or her has to be positive.
Does that detract from this being just another tragedy befallen an NFL player? Hell no.
But calling me a POS for sharing my opinion of him, that I would hold regardless of him being dead or alive, just doesn't make sense.

Most people just don't say negative things about people right after learning about their death even if it is true. I think that was the point he was trying to make. Now I doubt anyone here knew him so theres no reason to get all upset about it and call someone a pos.

First off calling him a bust is a horrible thing to do...with a 24 hour span of his death....How would feel if your brother was a pro athlete and he died at 26, and someone called him a complete bust, you would be pissed off....

Autopsy showed an enlarged heart. They are thinking a heart attack killed him.

Sad story.
To call him a bust under this topic, today, is just poor class. Its a topic for another day.
Lhs has proven over the last month to be a moron.
And the Chris Henry situation is completely different, and hopefully no one has to explain why.

You know what. Fuck you guys calling him a complete bust. Show some damn class when a kid dies at age 26. I hope you have a death to someone close to you that did everything right, and was a good person, and then someone belittles their purpose in life for no reason at all.
Gaines Adams is the career sack leader at Clemson. He is one of only 3 unanimous All-Americans in Clemson's history (Terry Kinard, Gaines Adams, and CJ Spiller).
How a guy can be a complete bust in just 3 short years of football. Maybe he hasn't produced as a #4 pick should, but in 47 games he had 4 FF, 13.5 sacks, 2 interceptions (as a DE), 93 tackles (his # ironically), and he had a defensive TD. He has struggled to put on weight in the NFL, but that doesn't mean he was never going to improve.
He is a great guy from all accounts here at Clemson. He grew up playing 8-man football in highschool and went largely unrecruited. Clemson signed him as a 3 star recruit and he worked his tail off to become more fundamentally sound. He was a beast in his junior and senior seasons. He was a very quiet, unassuming player.
So to those of you who want to belittle a man less than 12 hours after he has died, go fuck yourself, because you deserve it.

Do I feel he was a bust so far, Yes. However I also feel this is not the time or place to discuss something like that.
Sad ending for a man who seemed to do everything right. The debating on whether or not he may be a bust should come at a date down the road. The differences between Adams and Henry are far to great to list here, which is why the situation is completely different, and should be treated as such.

No, he can't be considered to be a bust at age 26. Kurt Warner didn't even get to the NFL until much later in his career. Some guys grow into themselves as players after 5-7 years playing pro ball. Their should be no debate on this whatsoever, because he was too young to judge as a bust or a good player.

I do agree with this. I'm with you, that 3 years is WAY to soon to label someone.ohiotiger33 wrote: No, he can't be considered to be a bust at age 26. Not to make this into a discussion, but up until this point in his career, you have to admit he had not lived up to his billing. Not saying he wouldn't have turned it around, and became productive.
Same thing people are saying of Greg Oden, and other players who've struggled out the gate.

Exactly. I can agree that he hasn't been as dominating in the NFL as he was in college. But who knows, he could have blown up next year and been amazing. It is just too early to tell. Sad.

Exactly.
Very sad, I hope this doesn't come out the wrong way, but I was at least happy to hear that there was no foul play involved with his passing(I.E. Drugs, mistress etc.) He seemed to be a kid with his head on straight.
