6'4 290lb Danny Jeandervin was seriously injured in a sled riding accident Thursday night when his sled crashed head on into a tree. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He has been a 3 year starter and was getting looks from several D I schools.

Prayers out for him and the family.

What kind of hill was it? I know here in Steubenville people love going down the hill at EGCC (JCC) and it could be dangerous.

It was at the city park. People have sleddded there for years and years. However, another Dover Sr. girl was paralyzed sledding there about 10 years ago. I think it might be time to change things around there. Accidents happen, but twice in the same area? I dunno what they should do.

Sadly, lots of kids get hurt on Deise hill. It seems like there are a couple every year.

I don't think a serious injury has happened at Deis Hill in a while. It may have been 10 years or more but I am not 100% sure.

I don't think anything can be done in this situation. Accidents happen and that is what it was. A very unfortunate accident occurred and it is important for us to keep the young man in our thoughts.

Sledding accidents happen everywhere. Not much can be done to stop that.

This. I am guessing it happened on the back side of Deis hill which is the steeper side with trees on both sides of an opening.

Hope the kid is alright! Young people are resilient, though, so I'm sure he's determined to not let this get the best of him and his life that lays ahead!

Add another one to your list of thoughts and/or prayers.

"Sophomore Grant Thompson — a member of the Wellston varsity football, boys basketball and baseball teams — was badly injured in a sleigh riding accident in Wellston in which he was struck by a car."

This happened back toward the beginning of the month...you can go to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/grantthompson if you want to read updates on how he is doing now. I'll post the latest update that his family left this morning.

"So I have slipped out of the room for a moment while he is getting his morning labs and XR. He put in a quiet night, opening his eyes periodically. He doesn't follow voices or commands but he is still under sedation.

Yesterday his sedative dose was dropped back to half dose in the morning. A side effect of this is increased shivering as he comes out of sedation. The ICU physician explained that with severe brain trauma shivering is part of the healing process.

If everything remains steady with his Hgb and pressures today and early evening, he will go to surgery tomorrow. We are praying for this to happen; the femur has to be causing him severe pain. Once the femur is repaired, his sedation doses can be decreased and he can be treated for pain. Treating for pain and removing sedation will allow the Neuro Team to make their assessments. The unknown is hard on all of us.
Today, we wait. "

I saw the story on Fox8 out of Cleveland. Sounded like he was healing nicely. Let's hope so.

Will continue to keep both boys in our thoughts and family prayers.

The latest:

"The last week at OSU has gone very well. Danny was off the vent for several days but had to be placed back on because they were worried about him getting pneumonia again. His coughing has improved althought it is still very painful for him to do it. Tonight they put the trach collar on again and he is breathing on his own. As long as they can keep his lungs clear he will be able to stay off the vent. Physical Therapy has been going well. He sat in a chair for the first time in over 5 weeks on sunday. Yesterday they had him sit on the edge of the bed, with help, and he got in a good 7 minutes of sitting up on his own. Danny is begining to realize the full extent of his injuries but although at times he has seems very distant he still manages to smile and laugh."
