Add 50 to those for the tax, although I am sure they would lower the price with that big of a tax.
As for this, packing my bags the day they legalize it!
Well, depends on how much more it would cost to produce then cigarettes. I think not much. A pack of cigarettes is 0.12 ounces, so we are talking 8X that volume.
I don't know, what is a pack of cigarettes, like $6-$7? But probably at least half of that is tax.
So I'd say a pack of Marlboro Greens would set you back $7, plus another $7 in tax....times 8 would be $112 an ounce. Assuming it's no more costly to produce, you could be talking a price as low as $70 an ounce. My guess given demand and that people would be less likely to go to an illegal dealer, it goes for much more than that. If you think the alternative is a 12 pack vs., I have no idea, 1 gram...then 1 gram should be worth about $10...that means a pack goes for about $40...making an ounce worth $320 (tax included).
What would be interesting is how competition with illegal dealers works. Easier, cleaner and safer to get is a pretty big disadvantage, but I should think their margin is quite large. The whole issue is like an economist's wet dream.
