I really feel Clemson loses again but believe Georgia and ND get unexpectedly upset before this is over. I think the great karma of Dabo continues and they make it though, avoiding maybe a couple close close calls

I've been thinking about this since I posted in the other thread about last night's rankings, and Ironman92 suggested the SEC might get two teams.

I now think that if Alabama wins the SEC, then the SEC is getting two teams in the playoffs, provided that Bama is 13-0 and Georgia is 12-1. Georgia's only loss would be to the SEC champ, and they will have a huge non-conference road win over Notre Dame. If Notre Dame doesn't take a nose dive over the next few weeks, then Georgia's resume is pretty solid. If Notre Dame wins out, then their resume is good enough to be in the playoff. Only thing holding them back would be a lack of a conference championship. So, if the committee thinks an 11-1 Notre Dame should be in, then a 12-1 Georgia automatically has to be in since they won head-to-head against Notre Dame.

Basically, it seems to me that Ohio State needs to root for Bama or Georgia to lose a game before the SEC Championship, and then wants UGA to win the conference since their resume is a little better than Bama's. OSU would also want to root against Notre Dame obviously, and maybe hope that Clemson or Oklahoma drops a game. Clearly, there are many scenarios that would knock out a couple teams ahead of them, but Ohio State might be in more trouble than I originally thought. For them, it's simple though. Win out, be the Big Ten Champ, and then hope that the normal losses that happen down the stretch actually do happen again this year.

If everyone wins out(and Bama wins the SEC), OSU will be in Phoenix...on the outside looking in.

Hell, they might even make it an OU/OSU rematch.

At least 3 big upsets to the current top 8 will happen and change things up big. Guaranteed

This post confuses me. You’re saying OSU would be in the playoffs or out?

I don’t think I agree. Finishing the season with wins against Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan, and wisky will lock them in. Remember, the committee loves wins against quality opponents.

I’d be interested in knowing the probability of that all happening. Probably have an equal chance of winning the lottery than 7 teams winning out in their remaining 5 games.

But yeah, if it actually did happen there’d be bedlam lol

I definitely think one or a few will slip up, but you never know. Personally, I'd like to see Oklahoma go down hard to OSU and TCU.

I thought this too initially, but right now, only Michigan State and Wisconsin are ranked. Iowa and Michigan wouldn't be "quality wins", as it stands now. In my opinion, they're quality wins because they're road wins against decent teams, but they're not ranked so that hurts the SOS.

The more I look at it, the more I don't like Ohio State's chances. But like I92 and you said, some upsets are probably inevitable.

Unless you're Penn State last year, these things have a way of working themselves out. I'm not worried until later in the year.

I'm just the opposite--after listening to the talking heads last night, as well as to Hocutt, I feel extremely confident we're in as long as we win out.

It's honestly way too early to make any predictions. Generally the top 4 in the first playoff poll lose at least 2 by season's end. I think as long as Ohio State keeps winning and doing it convincingly, they'll get in.

Clemson got ranked so high yesterday because of their “quality wins”. Teams like Georgia tech and wake forest had winning records so they called it a quality win.

Michigan and Iowa, especially on the road, are quality wins if ga tech and wake forest are too.
