Lube no. Back in the 70's early 80's my parents would smear it on my chest then rub a little under my nose to treat a chest cold. One of the medieval torture instruments my parents used on us as kids. The only thing worse was Dad's hair thinning dull toothed shears and and this unsharpened disc shaped razor.

Imagine that....

fyi - it's not meant to be ingested. Never eat camphor. Apparently you and your mom can't read? Pretty sure the label says, "If swallowed, get medical help"

Silly goof.

I'm not actually sure warning labels were on Vicks Vapor Rub or any medication in the early fifties and sixties. It wasn't a time when we had to tell everybody what to do and what not to do we just did what was best and what worked. It was also the same time. When We would drive 70 miles an hour on expressway drink from garden hose climb trees carry knives to school have a rifle in the back seat of our truck and be responsible for our actions there's also time that we could drink 3 .2 beer at 16 and your grandpa made some Homebrew you could have a few with him, we also had wine with every meal, drink coffee at an early age work hard play hard it was a time when we could do what we wanted to do and we had the common sense. We were stout group of individual unlike judgemental people like you.

I used Vicks while walking to school in 3-foot deep snow each day - uphill - both ways.

Dad: Son, stop using Vick's Vapor Rub. It will make you go blind.

Son: I'm over here, Dad.

Mine did the same back in the 1960's, along with a vaporizer in my bedroom. I don't remember being "tortured" by it - I was miserable from all the colds I was getting, and it helped me rest at night. Getting my tonsils taken out at age 6 made a vast improvement.

BRF1986 and I were talking about the virtues of having a CPAP a few years ago. He mentioned that using it when he had a head cold was miserable, so he would put a few drops of Vick's Liquid VapoRub in the water chamber to keep his nose clear.

I tried it a few times, but in general the air from the CPAP tends to keep my nasal passages clear all by itself, without using the Vicks. Probably a good thing.

Zunardo: I had been thinking all through this thread that it was VapoRub, and not vapor rub so thanks for saying that. I also got a laugh out of "BRF1986". People sometimes get us confused, although I also use a cpap!

LOL - no problem. And I really FUBAR'd that screen name, didn't I? Think I meant to say "BR1986FB". And yes, I used to confuse you and him when I started noticing your screen name. :D
