Do you socialize with your fellow employees at work and or after work ?

i see where I work, lots of the people have this..... Job, work, go home ....anything beyond that they want nothing to do with.

When I started as clerk at the post office in 1983 and got put on the night shift, my socialization patterns changed dramatically. Started going out for breakfast with my crew, started dating a fellow clerk, and joined 3 postal softball leagues and a volleyball league, and we would have a beer after each game and relax and kibbitz.

We all commented from time to time how much our workplace influenced that.

Getting married, having kids, and being promoted into management in 1998 - that put an end to most of my work socializing. I didn't go out and get drunk with the others in management, I didn't suck up at work, and I didn't trade bed partners like some of them. The downside was, I didn't get promoted for a long time. I don't think they trusted me.

Looking back, it probably worked out for the best.

My best friend works at the same company, different department. So we hang out outside of work. His gf also works here, again different departments. We all used to work together and would hang out with a couple other coworkers and our(currently only mine) boss. He's about our age and it's never been an issue with him being our boss. Outside of that, no. I've golfed with a few of the upper management guys, but it was always a work related outing. Most of them are older and have families and kids and what not.

Used to eat lunch everyday with my friend, but our schedules are different now so we don't. I'm not a fan of the people I work directly with, so I do my own thing while we're here. Unless it's a work convo or I get sucked into a personal convo, I don't socialize much while at work.

My only coworkers are my boss and his son. I do not hang out with either. In fact, I haven't seen either one since late December, and it has been a delight.

I did meet my best friend and several other very good friends at my job in college. We used to spend basically every day together, and not just at work.

All the time, but not with all coworkers. Some I'm cool with hanging with outside of work, others not so much.

I like all of my co-workers and we definitely socialize a lot during the work day. We don't hang out much outside of work, but none of us really live too close to each other and our work schedules aren't all the same. That said, we're about to spend a week essentially locked in the same few rooms at a convention center working 16+ hour days so it's a good thing we all get along.

I'm a big fan of work sponsored happy hours. One of the few things I'll miss at this shithole.

I've had co-workers I've socialized with and ones whom I wouldn't hang out with given any choice in the matter. One of those things where it's cool to have ones around that are fun to hang with, but if not, it doesn't bother me.

I used to. Used to play golf, volleyball, softball and bowl on teams comprised of my co-workers. My wife and I even socialized with other couples and became pretty good friends. That place wnet out of business and I have only seen a handful of guys since then. Still friends with a few. I havent really got to know the people I have worked with since then. Just don't have time and I am older and don't share the same interests.

I socialize with colleagues only at work-related events such as business dinners, conferences, etc. Beyond that, I don't seek it out. Like some of you have said, this was much different when i was younger. In my 20's, I socialized a lot with friends from work. In my case, as life changes (family, kids, etc.), that changes with it. I am fine having my work life and social life separate from one another.

This was me, minus the "company went out of business" part. Been with my company 24 years and am now an owner. When I was younger, we'd all go out the bar, Tribe games, etc. Now I have a 2 hour, round trip commute, and have about 2 hours family time before I go to bed and do it all again. Also, most of my group are 20-30 something's and our interests are pretty different (except for maybe lifting weights).

My department is full of drunks, so yes, I join them frequently. There are a dozen of us renting a house for Hangout Fest next week. Have beer olympics twice a year, clam bakes, random parties, and a ton of tailgates. I have very few friends outside of work at this point, except for those I know through my work friends.

This is similar for me. I get along with about everyone at work, but we all live so far apart that everyone usually heads home. The sales department has their trade shows where they hang out more.

I like some of my coworkers and have hung out with some outside of work. Definitely not a regular thing. At work I like to waste time talking to my employees so I do socialize in the building at work.

I have 2 really close work friends that I socialize with numerous times throughout everyday. I work far away so nothing after work but a pretty active group message with the 3 of us.

There are 4-5 others I socialize with a decent bit and 4-5 others as the occasion occurs. Everyone else is just the standard pass by "hey"
