I know there have been a few in the past but I felt like starting a new one. Now that our house is (hopefully) going to sell soon I plan on using part of the proceeds on a couple guns and a safe.

I had a XDS 9mm previously but my wife didn't like shooting it. She liked the Shield 9mm so I sold the XDS to my mom's boyfriend and bought a Shield. I'm not a fan of the Shield anymore and after shooting the XDS again recently I am going to purchase another one. I'm also planning on getting a full frame, probably an XDM but I haven't decided yet. I have found good deals on both on gunbuyer.com. Has anyone ever used the site before? The prices are great and shipping is free. I know I'll have to pay a transfer fee but even with that it will be significantly cheaper than buying from a local shop.

I am also looking for recommendations on safe manufacturers. I really know nothing about safes so any help would be appreciated.

If/when I buy another gun I'm going to find a range where I can rent a few to shoot first. I just bought a bodyguard 380 and I love the size but the trigger pull is ridiculously long and it throws off my aim.

As far as safes, I don't have much to offer besides get one bigger than you think you need. Mine is full and I wish I had more room.

Yeah, the trigger pull is what I've found I dislike about the Shield. All of our local ranges allow you to rent for $10, which includes at least 2 or 3 swaps so you can try several for the same price.

Are you looking for a full sized gun safe or just a small safe for handguns?

I bought this little guy for my pistols (9mm and .45): http://www.dunhamssports.com/products/bulldog-standard-digital-vault/

It works well. I know nothing about larger gun safes because I only own handguns.

Just curious, anything in particular she didn't care for about the "Croatian Sensation", or was it just a feel thing? My wife carries an XDs and her only complaint is that it's a little heavy compared to some other options. I tried really hard to like the Shield (especially when it was down to $279) but I never could talk myself into enjoying shooting it, just didn't seem to fit my hand.

My wife has small hands and didn't like the grip on the XDs. She's a better shot than I am with the Shield.

We went to the range with my mom and her boyfriend a few weeks ago and they brought my old XDs. I put a few rounds through it at the end of our time and I was hitting exactly where I was aiming without putting any thought or effort into it. With the Shield I really have to concentrate with every shot. I just don't like shooting it.

Good choice on getting a wife with small hands....anyone do much bird hunting? Recommendations for shot guns? I have gone twice in the last few months with my Benelli Supernova and its a pain in the ass lugging that thing up and down the hills.

I've never gone bird hunting but I'd like to give it a try this year. My only shotgun is an old New England single shot 12 gauge that weighs about an ounce and kicks like a horse so I don't shoot it often, only once every few years at the most. I probably wouldn't mind shooting it if I was actually shooting at game and not a target.

What do you hunt?

the safes work out great not huge but plenty of space for rifles and pistols plus ammo. Adjustable shelves, I added a motion led light. 500 pounds , bolted to the floor, with digital combo.
lot of space for records, gun, jewelry ... Whatever....

sig p238 the wife loves it....I love it also fixes in my back pocket easy... Only issue 5 rounds but I carry an extra mag in my pocket.

Browning Citori 12 is what I use for bird hunting. You can get them light and super light around 6-7 pounds. Expensive but well worth it if you go out a lot.

I have several safes. 1 Browning, a Field and stream, and a cheapo walmart model I keep all my cheap 22s and single shot shot guns in. The things I looked for when I bought mine were weight, fire proof, and ease of use. I bought both my big safes used and had them rekeyed, changed the combination on the two locks, and new keys. I also wanted to make sure I could bolt them to the floor. Good luck on your purchase and hope you find what you are looking for.

The Walther PPQ for double/single action is the best most accurate handgun that I own. If you are looking for a great carry weapon in double action Kahr makes great products, the CW line is very affordable and the P line is quite pricey. I carry during the week a CW9, on the weekends the PM 45, and when I'm out hiking the PPQ because of the round capacity. I certainly don't want to take on a gator or wild hog with a low capacity firearm. All of these are fine handguns and are spot on accurate. As for safes, be prepared to drop at least two grand on one if you want good quality. Range time is the key to mastering any gun, luckily I have a range of my own in the back yard so I practice once a week.

Really want to buy a Glock 19. My brother gets the glock military discount but I'm not sure the legalities of him gifting one to me.

I've shot there once before. I go to Point Blank in Blue Ash or on the farm back in Newark.

The bird hunters I know always spend a shit ton more on guns than I can and they are always trying something new. Back in the day I bought an 1187 for $300 and I think he only took it out once. Unfortunately I'm very trigger happy with a semi auto shotgun so I got rid of it.

I believe Champion is the brand of safe my mom's boyfriend has. He bought it from a local dealer on closeout (last years model), but, like me, doesn't know crap about safes. I believe he's happy with it so far.

My wife and I went to the range last night so I could blow off some steam, I've had a lot of anxiety lately with the house sale and work. I ended up renting a few handguns. First up was the Springfield XD Mod2 9mm, which I shot well, but it had 4 jams in 60 rounds. Next up was the Sig P320 full size, which I didn't really like. Last up was the trusty Glock 19.

They were also doing a 5-shot test fire on a Savage Arms AR-15, and if you hit a small target at 25 yards you got an hour of free range time on your next visit. It was a nice rifle, and I got a free hour of range time out of it, so I was pretty happy.
