It was. And it does make you wonder about the potential of many kids with good teaching. Although I still subscribe to the belief that everyone who really wants to CAN go to college, and high potential kids quickly make-up any deficit from crappy teachers in K-12.friendfromlowry;1844271 wrote:Thought the chess story was awesome.
I think the real key here was it made math fun for these kids, along with the strategy and logic introduced....and all of that is, IMO, the most critical foundation for educational success. Obviously reading and writing are functional requirements, but although math is not the be-all and end-all of smarts, I think it's the bridge between mediocre and above average.

I didn't watch the "fake news" story all that closely, but it seemed pretty weak. Maybe it's because I rolled my eyes and kind of tuned out after he began "the President calls good journalism he disagrees with fake news". Here you are, a journalist, talking ostensibly about journalistic integrity and ethics....and you lead in with a wholly inappropriate and unnecessary political commentary.
I don't watch 60 Minutes much any more....it's really gone downhill from the days it had real journalists with the highest standards and objectivity.
