Anyone else play bar trivia? We play every Tuesday night at a local taproom (The Growler House, if you're a Cincinnati resident). Our regular team has 4 members (wife, brother-in-law, brother-in-law's old roommate) and we typically place in the top 3 every week.

State bar in Chicago on Tuesdays has the best trivia. Winner gets a cool $800 and second $200. Everyone who plays gets a raffle ticket. And they give away 10-12 prizes every time. Sweet prizes too like a new tv, speakers, iPads, etc. last year I won surround sound speakers for my living room.

Usually about 40-50 teams and there's 7 rounds and each round is a different topic.

It's a good time

Ours is a much smaller crowd, usually 12-18 teams. Winning team gets a $15 gift card to the taproom ($10 for 2nd, $5 for 3rd). It's not high stakes or anything, but it's a lot of fun.

Do you have to pay for that place? Those prizes are crazy.

Nope. Costs nothing. Of course we sit there for 3 hours drinking and eating so usually end up spending $75'ish (Chicago prices). But it's worth it.

How do the rounds work?

Ours runs 6 rounds, 3 questions (unrelated topics, varying point wagers) and a bonus (1 point) each round. The 3rd round bonus is a "half-time" bonus and worth more points and the 6th round bonus is the final round where you wager 0-15 points on your answer.

The first 3 rounds you can wager 1, 3, 6 points, the last 3 rounds you wager 2, 5, 7 points on the questions. You can only use each point value once per round.

I play every Wednesday in Columbus, buzzer/jeopardy style trivia. I actually as hosting for a little bit (love trivia) but had to give it up (contractually) when I began working full time. Our team consists of anywhere from 4-8 and we are always named Reagan Bush 84. Cost is 0$ and there are normally 4-10 teams that show up.

The trivia itself has 4 rounds of 5 categories each (normally have 1 or 2 categories that are suggestions and the rest are whatever the host wants), and works just like jeopardy. There are two daily doubles. It really cuts down on cheating because the host can skip a question if nobody gets it within like 30 seconds.

The first 3 rounds get 10$ and the last round gets 25$. Up until a few months ago we used to play at Max N Ermas on thursday (same company) but they stopped doing it so we moved over.

If anybody is interested in their other days/locations in Cbus, check this out: http://excessstrivia.com/shows.html

My wife and my childhood friend and his wife do bar trivia at The Bootlegger Bar in Newark. They give weekly prizes but nothing big usually gift cards and tickets to events at the 31 west ballroom and event center that is next door. We usually get some sort of prize. The crowds are pretty steady with 15 to 20 four person teams a week.

My mom was telling me about this bar as a place to check out the next time I'm back home. Is it a decent spot to grab a drink?

How do they stop people from cheating with that many teams and such a big prize?

Baskets on the tables where your phone needs to be in. Obviously No electronics allowed on the tables. They have employees watching all the tables to make sure no one is cheating.

That's pretty cool, but I would start having withdrawal issues if I had to put my phone away for 3 hours lol. Sounds like a blast.

7 rounds, 5 round consisting of 7 questions. Write down answers on a sheet of paper and turn it in at the end of the round. 1 round is music round. They'll play 7 songs, have to write down artist and name of the song. 1 round is movie round. This one varies but obviously deals with movies. For example, one time they named two actors and you'd have to guess the movie they were in (I.e tom hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio = catch me if you can). Another time they asked for the academy award best picture winner and gave 7 years.

It's honestly a really well ran trivia.

Went to one consistently where the final prize was a week in a cabin in the woods. Very well run trivia. We finished 2nd for the year (35 weeks), which was a $1000 gift card to the restaurant/bar (also was good at the 3 others the guy owned).

Weekly Prizes were gift cards. $50/$25 for first and second. Season wide, we had about 11 teams. Any given week 15ish. 6 person max per team.

Moved within Raleigh, and it's now a 30 minute drive. So we stopped going.

I spent summers at college my last couple of years there and played every Friday night. Team name was always 'Carl Winslow and the Force'. Prizes were a gift card to the tavern (alcohol was excluded from the gift card which was lame). Was a good time, but don't have the time or friends interest to go to a regular trivia night any more.

Yeah it is a nice spot and is picking up a loyal following. They have some local live music usually going on and feature some of the local brews such as Homestead and Buckeye Lake Brewing company.

Sporcle Live does a ton of trivia every night in the Toledo area. Go to Ralphies in Perrysburg on Wednesday nights every so often.

We go to Bummies every time I go back home. You're right, it's nothing fancy, but the food is always good.

Nope. I'm sure there's a place nearby. I'm just a bit of a homebody, so I usually prefer to stay in and do something as opposed to going out.

Also, I work from my home office, so it's not like I'm out already.

My galfriends and I just started going to trivia on Wednesday nights. It's fun, we do fairly well, and our team name is Chick-Fil-Atio, which always gets some laughs.

My daughter and her friends do music trivia on Tuesdays at McGinty's in CLE. My husband and I try and go up once a month to play. (They like us coming since we know all the old shit.) It's a blast. And their team name is C You Next Tuesday. I'd love to find a place local and play.
