My wife switched careers this year (not job, career). Went from teaching to sales because the mandate in NC of no raises for first 6 years, plus it's the 48tg worst paid state for the profession. She is loving the switch...

...then there is me, who is gone anywhere from 40-45 weekends in the year, and miss almost all holidays. I've never been in any other business than sports television, but my wife wants me to look into another job with much, much less travel. I want that as well, but they don't just grow on trees, especially if we aren't going to relocate at this time. As it stands, working with my current company to be moved to a new role with about 12 weekends a year on the road and the rest at home with office work mixed in.

Anyone ever made a jump to a completely unrelated field without much background??

One career, but 6 jobs with 5 companies. I'm at my second stint with my current employer, but in a different capacity. I plan on being here as long as I possibly can, my current gig is pretty great.

I work in consulting so I change "careers" with every job. I'm lucky that I don't travel very much outside of initial client meetings.

Sounds like you have many different jobs but only one career, which is consulting.

I guess one? I have been in logistics for seven years (same job the whole time). I don't really consider retail and tanning salons a career, which is what I did during college and right afterward.

Technically 3 careers I guess, but only 2 with any significant time investment. I started in Finance which is boring AF but cushy. I was in finance ~3 yrs been in my current career for about 4 yrs. Like Justin, I've been at my current company 3 yrs, and I don't see myself leaving any time soon.

Been out of college around 7 years. Did public accounting for 5ish years and now in a finance function. It's all been business related, but they are pretty different jobs.

I started plumbing a year out of high school and worked for the same company for 12 years. Only reason I left was the owner retired and his son took over and he was a total asshole. I worked for another Plumbing company closer to home for five more years. I decided since everything I had was paid for to quit and start driving a truck so I could see the country. Done that for two years and enjoyed seeing the country and marking off a ton of my bucket list. I then went back to plumbing cause driving a truck sucks since people in cars dont care that you cannot stop a semi on a dime. The last two and a half years I went back to school looking to get into facility maintenance. I am done in May and pretty excited about this next venture. I guess you can throw in bartending. I did that on weekends for six years.

One career. Two companies. I started working at the first company in college printing checks at night. They needed pc support so I switched to that and then eventually full time pc support. When I graduated I had a couple of offers I did not like as a developer. One was shitty pay but no travel. The other paid better but it was a global company and I had to go wherever they wanted for the first year. I had a two year old daughter and that did not appeal to me. When I told my boss about it she offered me a full time job as a developer. Sometimes I think working for a bigger company right off the bat would have made me a better developer but I was happy staying local and being around when my daughter was growing up. The owner of the company retired and there was a bunch of politics. My boss thought she should have been made the new president so she left and everything went downhill for me fast. I got laid off within a year and started with my current company. I was with the first company for almost 18 years. I have been with my current company for 3 1/2 but there is a lot of instability here so I don't know how long it will last. I'm with my third team and fourth boss. I talked to someone the other day who was on his 12th boss in 5 years.

Growing up in a steel town many guys thought their career would be in the steel mills and I was no different heavy duty lift truck driver, that career end with the draft.
I liked the military, thought about a military career but that ended in Vietnam.
