Honestly ours is $0 premium, $2500 family deductible/$1000 individual. Pretty luck as my wifes company(smaller business) just eats the premium cost.

But I do know others are defintely struggling with increases in premiums and deductibles

The government did this all wrong. They couldn't of easily opened the free market and let competition drive down prices. When the government for involved is when the prices went up.

No one will want to hear this, but doctors and hospitals make a lot more money than in Europe. That is where most of the cost is, along with cost in unnecessary tests.

There just isn't much margin in insurance for competition to drive down (unless you start squeezing the doctors and hospitals). That is why single payer won't work like people think, because no politician is going to admit that "the fix is to pay doctors and hospitals a lot less". Good luck with that.

some of these large hospitals remind me a lot of the way colleges have expanded their administration and support functions exponentially to justify huge tuition increases. I had a neighbor in Cleveland that worked at the Cleveland Clinic. Holy crap - that place was staffed out the rear with thousands of people working in areas like IT , marketing and -of course - HR. Hearing from him about that kind of overhead confirmed to me why it costs a small fortune to have anything done there. The Clinic is like the Ohio State of hospitals - both seem to have lost the plot.

Congress should trade pre-existing coverages for complete and absolute tort reform. The massive savings from getting trial attorneys off the ass of doctors/hopsitals would far, far outweigh additional expenditures for some type of work-around on pre-existing conditions. The liability insurance costs paid by doctor's is absolutely sickening, and could probably cut medical expenses by 20% right out of the gate if eliminated.

What's your proposed reform look like? How much of our medical costs are truly attributed to malpractice liability insurance premiums? You believe that medical expenses could be reduced by 20 % with an elimination of insurance for doctors. Since medical costs for the US in 2016 was something like $3.0 trillion. According to you, about $600 billion is the cost of malpractice insurance then (20% x $3.0 trillion).

i just want to be clear on your points.

Is it just me... or are news outlets relying on "sources" more than they are names?
The conspiracy theorist in me (haha) thinks that these sources are definitely real people and not just journalistic/propaganda crutches. And the reason why there are so many leaks and dramas being told to these news outlets is because the outlets are wasting time chasing all these tremors and not paying attention to the epicenter.

1) People who can afford to or able to will just have their operation overseas, or

They are building a new facility at the Grand Cayman Islands which is an hour from Florida by plane. I can easily see an insurance company paying for a flight when the hospital is so much more affordable. (Assuming the Drs and outcomes are still good)

Except insurance companies don't pay the same price as someone off the street....they've negotiated usually something like 1/10th the price.

Not sure if 1% of the cost in these cases is fair or accurate, but it is pretty true that our doctors and hospitals cost, on average, about twice what they do in Europe (which means our specialists might be 4-5X).

Maybe people you know detest it, I know many people that are thankful for it. I was never a supporter of the ACA, but to say the people detest it is just your opinion based upon the people you associate with.

Trump is a blowhard who says anything to get his way. We've been listening to years of conservatives telling us Obamacare is the end of our civilization as we know it. Keep in mind, the right has never done one thing to address a healthcare crisis that has raged on in this country for decades (long before Obama came along). Now Trump puts forth a plan that meets none of the things he said it would. There has never been a president in my lifetime that has lied so often and so fast as this guy. I love how he dishes out his juvenile insults and then cries like a baby when he decides anyone has been "very rude" to him.

I cannot believe this clown is our president. A crying shame

The flaw here is that you think the government should be in the business of controlling or as you say "fixing" it.

Health insurance is out of control and out of reach for most because of 2 things: our society doesn't value health until they are already sick ( 60% of US people are obese) and the other thing is that the government subsidies drive up cost because insurance companies know that the government is good at spending other people's money

The AHCA encourages that healthy people forego coverage until they're sick. Thankfully, this version will never pass.

I don't think it's a simple as government "fixing it". But the fact is that over the last 20 years, costs to the patient has skyrocketed and access has become much more difficult for some. This problem has been around through successive administrations without any attempt to counter it. Obamacare is not a fix all. But it is a step toward addressing the most pressing issues. Now instead of trying to build upon it, Trump is rushing through something that will make it more difficult for the most vulnerable among us to receive basic care. I think that is going the wrong way.

Let's not tag a 20 year curve in this. It's been 7 or8 years that prices skyrocketed.

Ummmm, Medicare D had been the largest expansion of the welfare state since Medicare was enacted in 1965.
