Most costly car/truck repair bill you have had to endure?

It was not that big of a deal but I pick up my truck today $1600.00 later. I knew something was very wrong, I hit this pot hole about two days ago and something just didnt fell right in the steering. I took it to my trusted mechanic. It was painful because I was pissed i hit the dam pot hole in the first place and second really did expect that much damage. Its fixed now and i can feel better about driving my truck again.

The most i ever paid for a one time car repair bill was $2700.00 it was my daughter car blown engine, both she and her husband was out of work. I should have just bought them a better car and put that 2700 for something better. But they made the call and I just paid the bill.

Ironic you post this ..... I am facing a potential $3,800 engine replacement ....not going to happen; car not worth it.

Getting a second opinion, and hoping for a miracle.

My Lincoln Navigator had a cooling hose travel over one of the cylinder coils. It leaked coolant over the coil and shorted/exploded the spark plug screwed into the engine block. Damaged the thread in the block the plug was to screw into. We didn't end up replacing the whole engine but had a band aide type repair to get the plug to thread just enough. I don't remember the cost but it was substantial enough that I hated paying it.

Not nearly as bad as yours, but yesterday kind of sucked for me.

I went to get oil change and state inspection done. 3 hours later it cost be $500 and I had to get a new sensor that went bad before it would pass inspection.

I bought a used 2015 SUV in October and someone hit my car while I was parked on the street 2 days later. $5300 in damage to replace both driver side doors. Luckily his insurance wrote the full check.

Paid $2k a few months ago due to a timing chain on a 2009 accord with not a ton of mileage. Pissed me off. Traded it in a few months later so it didn't break again.

Never had a repair bill over $500 and that was in the late 90's on an old accord

That is pretty amazing. Hondas are known for having to replace timing belts. Had a couple and both I had to have the timing belts replaced at about 90k miles.

Had a vehicle that suddenly stopped blowing heat. Air worked fine. Turns out it was the blend door breaking (I believe at pivot point) blocking off hot air. Part was around $20 if I recall. Problem was the whole dash had to be removed down to the floor boards to get to it. Airbags and all. Dealer only job. Cost me around $800.

83 Civic....1 timing belt change in 165,000
88 Accord...2 timing belts changes 285,000
93 Civic....original timing belt 145,000
98 Civic....original timing 158,000
00 Civic...original timing 125,000
01 Civic....original timing 185,000
05 Accord....original timing 200,000 (still driving)
07 Civic....original timing 120,000 (still driving)

I don't know much about when Honda's went from timing belt to timing chain but Hondas from mid 90's on I haven't had to have a single replacement...my early ones seemed to go about 100,000 and they'd break

I have not owned a Honda in awhile. I guess that is why I did not know they went to the chain instead of belt. I had a 93 and 98 Accord and both had to have timing belts early. Only problems I ever had with them except the normal maintenance.

It screwed up some other stuff too. I'm pretty sure it was caused by a Honda known defect with the oil pressure but I couldn't get them to admit it or prove it. I barely drove the thing so I was pretty miffed by the whole experience. I won't be buying another Honda again but my wife's CRV has been fine.

First car I ever had was '95 Lumina and the transmission went out while driving. Was going to cost like $2500 to repair but wasn't worth it.

Conversely, I took my car in a few weeks ago because the computer was getting glitchy and needed a patch/update or something. It took them a couple days because the side mirror indicators went bad and needed repaired also. I was looking at the bill and thought I was going to end up paying $1100 but my warranty covered all but $100.

Buying my 2013 Dodge Dart was one of the best decisions I ever made. Have about 18 months left on the payments, 60,000 miles on it and never had any major problems with it.
