Justified.

Although maybe if they sue, and win, I can create a protest and skip work whenever I want too. And they can't touch me.

Protesting with the sole victims being the people proven not to discriminate against immigrants makes zero sense.

I doubt anyone was fired for protesting; I am sure they were fired for either an unexcused absence or their absence caused their cumulative absences to go over a certain employer threshold.

I am also certain that all the left-wing media sites will frame the headline and the article to make it look like employees got fired for protesting. Disgraceful, dishonest, disingenuous. And they wonder why most Americans don't trust them.

good. It would be ironic if illegal immigrants were hired in their spots

It will depend on the work policy. If you call in sick, or some other excuse or don't call in at all, than they MIGHT be justified in firing you...but only if they've fired every other employee discovered to have done that (which seems unlikely). Otherwise, since I'm assuming most are minorities they could have a discrimination case.

This does serious harm to the business. You still have to pay the people who showed up, but then you might not actually be able to work and make money. That could be devastating to a restaurant or other small business, taking as much as a month to make-up for the loss. If your protest forced a shutdown of the business, that's definitely solid grounds for termination.

I work for a large corporation and you literally can do a no call, no show up to.3 days and keep your job.

The more I think about it, it's ridiculous. They were fired by a private business (a restaurant). There probably isn't a "policy guide" and if you don't show up for a shift, the owner can fire you, and justifiably so. It's not like you're signing a contract and are adhering to a corporate policy guide with sick time, paid time off, etc. They are probably hourly, part-time employees and while we don't know any other details, if I employ people like that and they fail to show up, they are subject to being fired.

The real complaint would be if there were past examples where people who don't show up and never notified ownership and still kept their jobs. Then you might have a discrimination argument, but it sounds like these people who got canned had no respect for the expected protocol and no common courtesy to even call/text to give them a heads up.

I'm sure people with those policies are just fine then. I don't think a business is dumb enough to get into that legal battle and pr disaster.

If they are, well then they are dumbasses.

Edit: They would be dumbasses for either neglecting their own policy or dumbasses for not knowing their policy.

Were the people fired all fired from a large corporation?

I doubt it, I just was stating something I thought was ridiculous but apparently is common amongst bigger companies. I'm sure there is some HR reason why you would give someone 3 days of not showing up.

I am ok with business owners firing these people who didnt show.

They were fired from a restaurant and were likely hourly, part-time employees. Also, they weren't fired for missing work, they were fired for skipping their shifts AND not notifying the manager/owner. If I was in-charge, I'd be looking for a new staff too and it has nothing to do why they didn't show up.

Yes they do; they have the right to walk out on their employer at any time, for no reason, with no recourse.

The reverse is also true.

Probably because unions fought for the right to disappear from work and not be fired.
