I wasn't at the meeting yesterday but I'm wording how Gordon (L) got the 1 seed at 106 who went 0-2 at Districts last year over Patterson (M) who went 1-2 at Districts both at the same weight.

Does it really matter? The right 4 kids got honored, to me, that is what matters most. All 4 of them are deserving and really seeding is just splitting hairs. It is a pre season all star meet. Don't like it? Use it to motivate you during the season.80baby;1824513 wrote:I wasn't at the meeting yesterday but I'm wording how Gordon (L) got the 1 seed at 106 who went 0-2 at Districts last year over Patterson (M) who went 1-2 at Districts both at the same weight.

Gordon had beat Murray from DC. I believe Murray beat UA's 106 who had beat both Patterson and West 106. What was said earlier, I believe the 4 that earn spots got it. I'd imagine Patterson will get the nod next year.

Patterson did not wrestle any of them head to head in 2015-2016 season the closest opponent was Gordan verses Rodriguze at Districts where she lost by tech fall 17-2, Patterson lost 14-12 very close matchnewbie75;1824668 wrote:Gordon had beat Murray from DC. I respect that all 4 are honored but 3 get the match, there was 3 District QA Patterson was one of the ones with the better record at Districts, The goal is to get the best wrestlers, District QA should always trump non district QA period I think that's a no brainier not splitting hairs.Fatmanroll>Peterson;1824644 wrote:Does it really matter? Since I have some free time in my conference period, let us analyze:basic;1824860 wrote:I respect that all 4 are honored but 3 get the match, there was 3 District QA Patterson was one of the ones with the better record at Districts, The goal is to get the best wrestlers, District QA should always trump non district QA period I think that's a no brainier not splitting hairs.
#1 is Autumn Gordon (Lancaster), who knocked off in the to go match at sectionals #2 seed Kyle Murray (Dublin Coffman) and finished her season at 20-18 going 0-2 at Districts losing to Rodriguez (Whetstone) via tech fall and and Salazar (Gahanna Lincoln) 8-4. Pretty sure she was a first year wrestler as a Junior as well?
#2 is Kyle Murray (Dublin Coffman) who got upset by Autumn Gordon at sectionals, finishing as a District Alternate and his season at 23-15. He holds victories over Mitch Herron (UA), and Amadi Bakari (West), in the regular season.
#3 is Mitch Herron (Upper Arlington) who went 1-2 at Districts finishing 25-16. He lost in the regular season to Kyle Murray, and defeated Amadi Bakari from West at the Lee Spitzer last year.
Alternate - Doug Patterson (Mifflin) who went 1-2 at Districts finishing 17-7. He defeated Amadi Bakari (West) in the regular season and at Districts. He also pinned Salazar (Gahanna Lincoln) at Sectionals who defeated Gordon (Lancaster) at Districts.
Not selected - Amadi Bakari (West) who went 0-2 at Districts finishing 34-9. He lost to Kyle Murray (DC), Mitch Herron (UA), and Doug Patterson (M) all in close matches in the regular season, and then got pinned and eliminated by Patterson (M) at Districts.
From the information above - the only thing that I would say is clear is that the right 4 wrestlers got honored. Everything else is up to interpretation and opinion. It is also a conversation that should have happened at the meeting last Sunday, but didn't, so there is no sense in complaining about it now.

Being a Pastor don't allow some to make a 11:30 Sunday meeting and that should never cost the kid Jesus over everythingDust_E_Roads;1824891 wrote:BOOM! Well said.

So if the conversation were to happen, how would this have solved anything? It would have just went around in circles. I think the coaches did a find job selecting. Had his coach shown up I'm sure an argument could have been made. As in who he wrestled and beat throughout the season.

You could have sent another representative from your team, and if you didn't have one you could have contacted me before the meeting to speak on behalf of your kid. Getting on here and complaining about it makes our league look silly. Have your kid use this as motivation to prove everyone else wrong.

Couldn't have said it any better. I'm all for the best kid wrestling. I know Sunday mornings are touch for some to get to Marysville. I agree with Fatmanroll, send an email with his stats.

Honestly, city wrestlers are always looked down upon, sometimes with good reason I'll admit, regardless of their ability and results. Having coached in the city and suburbs for nearly 20 years, I understand the frustration city coaches, in every sport, have with feeling their kids never get the benefit of the doubt. The coach from Mifflin called me to see if I was attending the meeting, but I had a previous obligation (yeah, Sunday mornings are a bad meeting time), in order to talk about Patterson. I thought he reached out to the Whetstone coach in order to talk on Patterson's behalf??
At the end of the day, IT IS WHAT IT IS, and I'm sure Patterson will see Gordon and others throughout the season and the discussion will be settled as it should be.....on THE MAT!
Congrats to all those honored by being a part of the All-Star meet!! : thumbup:

Junior year was definitely not her first. Shes been around for a few years. I don't mean this in a bad way or anything, just putting the info out there for discussion's sake.Fatmanroll>Peterson;1824885 wrote: Pretty sure she was a first year wrestler as a Junior as well?

I think it is so cool seeing girls succeed at wrestling. Being at a disadvantage in a male-dominant sport and working their absolute hardest to be competitive. I think it's awesome that we have pretty talented female wrestler right here in our own district. Another name that comes to mind is 2016 grad. Jaelyn Ballard from Westerville Central. She qualified for the district tournament in 2015 as a junior at 113, and was one match away from qualifying for Districts as a senior at 106. If Autumn Gordon makes it back to Districts this year as a senior, this will be the 3rd year in a row that a female wrestler from Central Ohio has qualified for the Darby District Tournament.
