gosh a ruddies, Buckeyes Number one
The Associated Press has been ranking the best teams in college football for the last 80 seasons. Since the first Top 20 in 1936, 1,103 polls have been taken and 164 schools have been ranked. Minnesota was the first No. 1 in 1936. Western Kentucky was the last team to make its poll debut (in the final poll of the 2015 season). In between, Muhlenburg, NYU and Colorado College have made appearances.
To determine an all-time Top 100 for the first time, the AP counted poll appearances (one point) to mark consistency, No. 1 rankings (2 points) to acknowledge elite programs and gave a big bonus for AP championships won (10 points)

No. 1 Ohio State (1,112 points)
Total appearances: 852, 77.24 percent of all polls.
First appearance: 1936.
No. 1 rankings: 105.
Championships: Five (last 2014).
Best full decade: 1970s appeared in 92.57 percent of polls.
Worst full decade: 1940s appeared in 55.68 percent of polls.
Poll point: There have only been three seasons during the 80-year history of the AP poll in which the Buckeyes were not ranked at least once, the fewest poll-less seasons of any program.

No surprise. In CFB, it's always been OSU vs the rest.

The 'occasion' for the analysis was the 80th Anniversary of the AP poll

they must take into the consideration that the osu bucks have played in a much easier conference than. other teams like the SEC or BIG 12. These confereses have traditionally been much more difficult than the big 10 especially if you look at the last 30 years. I love my osu bucks as much as the next person but this list doesnt add up to me personaly

Lol prove it.

If your argument is the ap poll sucks then I can agree with you there but all they did was analyse which teams were ranked higher longer in the ap poll

It is an AP vote, who cares. Ohio st have been very good but as the #1 team over last 80 years is a joke. Alabama, Michigan & Notre Dame should have been top 3 in what ever order you want. I could see Ohio st. 4th or 5th with USC as the other team. Notre Dame best winning % all time, Michigan most wins all-time, Alabama most national titles all-time.

A bunch of early Michigan wins, 18? to early 1900s, came against club teams. They even played a high school team a time or two. I am guessing this happened a lot with Notre Dame as well. I would have to agree with the Alabama statement.

My favorite is the 1892 Oberlin game. The referee (an Oberlin player) declared the game over while Oberlin had a 24-22 lead so Oberlin left the field. An umpire (Michigan fan) declared there were still 4 minutes remaining so Michigan lined up and scored a td against an empty field. Both teams still claim they won the game.
