I am rooting for the army. They are fighting against the incumbent party which is a Religion of Peace party. Knocking the Religion of Peacers out of power anywhere is a good thing. They can go practice their sick religion somewhere else.

Turkey is a secular country, so if they are trying to take down the current regime I assume they are at least trying to take down the theocratic policies. I talked to my mom (Turkish), and she seems pretty happy about this. That's interesting. When I hear military coup, I don't usually think it's a good thing for the people. Thanks. They seem fine with the coup as well (so far). This isn't the first one they have lived thru. My mom went through 2 when she lived there and apparently my grandfather was arrested.FatHobbit;1803362 wrote:That's interesting. I am watching some live video and it seems the masses are pleased by this. At least in the more progressive turkish cities (istanbul, izmir, most western cities).

My wife has a Turkish friend and she is telling us that the president was supporting isis and the military is trying to stop him.

So it's small groups within the military doing all of this? Technically, the Turkish military doesn't support the coup?Some military figures spoke out against a coup, including the commander of the First Army, Gen. Umit Guler, who issued a statement, carried by a pro-government news channel, saying, “The armed forces do not support this movement comprised of a small group within our ranks.”

Turkey, a staunch member of NATO, has one of the largest armies in Europe. It is one of the most dependable forward bases we have in the fight against ISIS.

They're Muslim, but at least the military in Turkey has a secular culture and tradition. No matter, the coup has failed and the everyday Muslims are doing what they do best: torturing and beheading soldiers that have been arrested.
