I wanted to start a new thread here with the outlook of the new occ dual alignments and possibly discuss ways to make state duals work for everyone. Me as a fan of the sport I would love to be part of state duals. I would love to make it mandatory! Its a cool team aspect of the sport. But not how it is set up and I understand why our coach chooses not to participate, It can be better, It can work for all! No wrestler wants to be injured this time of the year or fatigued, or sick! I also feel bad for the 12 entire teams and familys that have to drive all the way to Columbus from their respected part of the state for one match then have to go home.

My wife, my son and I have traveled the country due to wrestling and have met some awesome folks along the way, It has been a individual long many years, we wouldnt trade any of it for the world, but after that insane dual the other night with coffman and liberty I realize these local OCC duals can work! That was awesome! Intense! Hard core fans, Coaches going ape nuts, a rocking student section, and some crazy good wrestlers!

Looking at the new alignment OCC had just broke up the dual I talked about above but I see what they are doing putting the tangy's and westervilles together. Not sure why not make it the tangys and the dublins but thats another discussion.

Leave OCC as it is, or as its going to be, keep those little rivalries. Ohsaa needs to consider State duals earlier in the year. Youd could wrestle prelim rounds up to Christmas, then Holiday tourneys over Chirstmas, then the 8 man brackets first couple weekends of the new year. This gets all the state duals out of the way before OCC duals start up! Eliminates worrying about football players beginning of season, and holiday tournaments over break. Make the final 8 teams a double elimination bracket, Give everyone more bang for their buck!

Lets say Liberty was in state duals this year, and Coffman had Marysvilles line. not sure where Olib would be in those two spots but there would have been a chance of the coffman/liberty dual two nights in a row? Not sure it could have worked like that but either way coffman/marysville was 2 weeks apart, then in two weeks sectionals start. How many times do the same teams within 10 miles from each other have to wrestle each other? We also dont need 2 full rounds of 84-0 matches. This does absolutely nothing. We could even set up Dual entries according to how teams finished in the OCC and do state duals the week after individual. There is all kinds of ways we can go about this to make it better!

Before the trolls show up, please, I am only looking for logical opinions and or Ideas here, Nothing is gonna fix during my sons next year but would love for this to be more logical in the future so everyone wants to be a part of something that COULD be great! How do we get those involved on board to see we need change? Been a part of this sport for 30 years and have no idea the administration aspect, I probably should have just been a ref (o:

When will you guys see that duals are just top guys ducking one another. I say take that list of Occ teams and put them in one big 2 day tournament about one month from sectionals and we crown the occ champion that way.

Ahhh...the OCC Capital division...the kids in the neighborhood that the rest of the kids tolerate but don't really want to play with. Time for you guys to break off and make a new league! Licking Heights and Watkins (the LCL teams everyone wants to go) with those guys and you have a league full of misfits that would be a great time!

The alignment of the OCC is driven by the big sports of football and basketball, so in that sense, it is out of the wrestling worlds hands. As far as the tourney goes, it would be fun, however, would still create the same issue. It is basically districts with a few others thrown in. The OCC duals are fun and create for some exciting rivalries, are good for the fans, and each school has an opportunity to hose and make some money.

ksig489, we certainly took a long hard look at a new league, not sure what happened.

I agree this league has been set up for football and basketball! We need to adjust some things for wrestling!

Yes we have determined that a all OCC tourney would simply be the Darby District.

And all the rivalries that my son has created in the occ are now gone for his senior year. Not only were they great rivalries they have been some of the most intense well fought duals I have been a part of. Gonna miss the Coffman and Marysville duals for sure!

I would be all for taking each division and running it like the LCL one day dual tourney. Makes perfect sense frees up thursdays so state duals could fit right in there.

Who is in charge and who runs OCC and Ohsaa state duals? Does anyone have this info off top? I will google research if need be, hoping someone on here has some direct contact.

Great points! I hate the realignment. The Capital division is awful. To have Big Walnut and New Albany drive all the way across the city for all their games/matches is ridiculous. We lose Mount Vernon and our even 32-team, 4x8 structure for this reason. Also we lose good rivalries. New ones will be made but you cannot convince me on this new structure. I did not see a reason to change it.

I think the growth of the Olentangys forced the OCC to do something. Orange and Olentangy Lewis Center are growing too big for most of the remaining Capital teams, especially in this next enrollment cycle. I also understand that the Olentangy schools wanted to be together and that they and the Westervilles threaten to bolt the League if they were broken apart. That is what I was told by an Athletic. director who was directly involved in the discussions. The new Capital is a hot mess, that much is for sure.

The issue with the 1 day dual tourney, which we did about 7 years ago, was that it made the All OCC selections very foggy! The best teams may be wrestling in the finals, but perhaps the best individuals would not have an opportunity to wrestle against each other.

An individual tourney would solve that problem, however, there is an argument for dual meet strength vs. tourney strength.

I think a 2 day tournament would be awesome maybe a holiday tournament or 2nd weekend in December right before all the holiday fun starts.

please accept Logan into the OCC Capital (or any other division). that would give the OCC an even 32 teams. enrollment wise Logan would be around 28th or so. next school year Logan will be without a league

Prob Off,

The OCC will be bringing in the next Olentangy school in 2019 to make the OCC at 32. But yes I would like to see teams like Logan, Teays Valley and Hamilton Township join the OCC.

tongue in cheek, but yes I would love to have TV, HT, Logan in either the OCC or a new league with Canal and a few other schools.
