I'm not buying that the CEO was unaware of this. I wonder how much money this will cost VW not only in lawsuits but future sales as well.

Understanding the j1939 protocol in relationship to the ecm unit any alteration is a planned and researched development project.

They actually wrote the software to detect if the emissions were being tested and only if they were to turn on the emissions control. It was no accident. (I know you already said it was intentional. I'm only pointing out that there is no doubt)

...looks like the Germany govt. was also aware of what VW was doing & turned a blind eye to it.

My car isn't doing near the damage as corporations in China. This is what happens when you become too popular and people are buying you over GM hybrids and diesels.

Just hike up the import tax. I think this regulation is absurd anyway.

b/c my opinion is that most of these regulations are overkill anyway.

Edit: Why is it not a worldwide "regulation?"

We're talking QQuaker. No matter the topic or issue, he will change it to something he feels like bitching about. And with over a year until the next big election, he's just going to get worse. At least until he gets the Tiernan Thread-Ban Special every time he goes off topic.

I know more about this topic and the development of J1939 .... and to think I'm the stupid one... :)
The software is only the minor issue but the development of a chip that alters the J1939 protocol chip signals/data within the ecm unit and the instrumentation is truly the evidence (work related) of a planned and intentional act.

This is where the EPA and Government around the world are clueless about what they do and or want in trying to protect the environment. Blame the obvious .. smoke come out of diesel engine and cars bad emission and mileage but India, China, Europe and even Canada spew out manufacturing smoke and particulates by the tons … but let America destroy there manufacturing, displace jobs and pressure a diesel and auto market into unrealistic standard.

I like to thank the VW company … Belly has a idea …

Not changing the topic; merely contrasting what occurs when bad things happen in the private sector as opposed to BIG government. In one instance, accountability comes in to play and people pay dearly for their mistakes and transgressions; conversely nothing happens to those on the Left in BIG government who do likewise.

Again, you cannot control your emotions towards a poster and it clouds rational debate on the topic.

This sounds pretty far fetched. C'mon, would the Germans ever try to kill someone with poison gas?
