I already know how this is going to play out, but figured why not.
Last night Jon Oliver did a segment on DC Voting rights.

I am guessing most on here are totally against the District having any voting representation in the House or Senate.
But, if that is the case, why do you support that?
Why is ok for nearly a million people to not have a voice on taxes or whether we go to war?
Do they just not matter?
Are people on here just against it because they know it will lead to a D in the House or Senate?

DC resident here.
They either need to give us some representation or they need to remove Congress from having final say over the city. Ideally both options.
And yeah, no doubt it would be a D here for the next 10,000 years.

it is kind of ridiculous that that the people living in DC, the seat of our government, have no vote in selecting the legislature and executive that seats there.

Well we all know why right? Too many black people in DC and this racist country does not want them to vote.isadore;1744048 wrote:it is kind of ridiculous that that the people living in DC, the seat of our government, have no vote in selecting the legislature and executive that seats there.
We need another MLK.

DC resident as well and I agree with this statement even if it means another libtard will be holding a seat.sleeper;1744044 wrote:DC resident here.

Its not a state. Either it needs to become a state or an amendment to the Constitution would be needed on how to apply a non state federal district. Neither of those are likely.ptown_trojans_1;1744043 wrote: am guessing most on here are totally against the District having any voting representation in the House or Senate.

Its not ok. Currently they don't matter because of what I stated above. I would suggest in the short term if you want full representation move outside of the district and commute.ptown_trojans_1;1744043 wrote:Why is ok for nearly a million people to not have a voice on taxes or whether we go to war?

Not me. Just to follow the Constitution and the rule of law. No doubt politically however what you stated above is the case. Couple of politically palatable ideas to address this. Statehood for (D) DC and also statehood for a group of counties (R) out west California or Colorado for instance. Both have counties that have secessionist movements. Pretty complicated and unlikely. The simplest quickest and easiest solution would be for Congress to give back nearly all the land ceded by Maryland to form DC back to Maryland like they did in Virginia.ptown_trojans_1;1744043 wrote:Are people on here just against it because they know it will lead to a D in the House or Senate?
