What are we going to do with that trade exception and does that come towards the trade deadline?

Yeah I assume we well hold off on it until then, unless something comes up. I assume what we can/will see happen is some team, such as the T'Wolves who've got some high priced players (Kevin Martin, Pekovic) decide to just cut bait mid way through the season to tank further, they essentially did that this season when they gave away Brewer for almost nothing.

May not land a glamour name, but could see us land a couple solid mid-end of the bench guys.

Can you split the trade exception up and combine it with players? I still think the Cavs should see what they have with Varejao and if somehow he comes back effective, try to dump him.

I don't see that happening. If Andy came back as effective, why would they move him? Also, I don't see LeBron being on board with them dumping Andy.

That's the key part, LeBron.

You just gave Thompson a massive contract and Mozgov is a pending free agent and does everything Andy does, but better and younger.

If you could find a taker for Andy, you could possibly get another expiring contract to flip or combine it with the trade exception and land someone else.

Can you really see Thompson, Mozgov and Varejao with enough minutes to go around? Forget where Love even fits in there.

Well, obviously if he's unable to be anything useful, nobody would consider taking his remaining contract years. So, you would hope he plays well, you get some decent production from him, then find a team who needs a "well-rounded" big for the playoffs.

There's no doubt moving him regardless would make sense. The bigger question is...can you?

You can break it up, however cannot attach another player with it. The player you bring in, only absorbs the amount of money on his contract. The remaining left over balance could be used to claim a player off of waivers and/or trade for another guy.

Much better than the initial rumors we were hearing about $3-$5M a year. I can stomach the $1.2M he got

I think he's worth between $2-3M a year. I think he can get better and be a solid piece off the bench so if he wants $5M he's going to have to develop a consistent jump shot because he's too small to really be a threat to the lane.

Been reading through some summer league stuff, wonder what it would take to pry TJ Warren from the Suns.

Nah it was this article:

http://basketball.realgm.com/analysis/238890/Finding-Minutes-For-The-Unorthodox-Game-Of-TJ-Warren

Scoring from the SF position while LBJ is on the bench with shooters (Cavs have) plus young seems like a nice thing to bring in and see if it works.

I deleted my post because while the summer league is mostly irrelevant, I agree that TJ is a player of interest. Loved his game at NC State. Smooth, if unconventional, scorer.

No.

Aaron Afflo - We already have KI, Mogotti, JR Smith (I'm assuming he comes back), Iman Shumpert, and Delly. I dont see min for him and he's not an upgrade.

Asik - Defensive Center is prob the most intriguing, but we have Mozgoz, TT, Love, Andy (for 27 games). He's a bad FT shooter, adaquate but not great rebounder, etc.. Again don't see a big upgrade but like pitching can never have enough bigs.

OJ Mayo - see Aaron Afflo except he's a chucker and plays as much defense as Carmelo.

Frye - LOL, a "big" that only thing he is above avg at for his position is shooting the 3. He hasn't played well in several seasons, but if he got his head out of his ass he could be a nice versatility piece for us. I'd like to think we could get better value than a lotto ticket for that big of a trade exception.

Kevin Martin - Eh, he provides another scoring option and not much else.

I'd rather get a back up SF, one that can actually play. Not a bunch of retreads hanging on because they didn't suck ass 5 seasons ago.

Doing a little more reading/research I understand what that author is getting at, but I just find the roles redundant. Looking more into Martin, he can score. Didn't realize he scored 20 pts a game, hitting almost 40% from 3. I would take that consider NO ONE could hit last post season in the finals.

Frye also hit close to 40% from 3, and the Cavs have to be top 3 in taking 3 pt shots. He's had back issues, and a down yr in Orlando last season. I can see the attraction, but I think he's basically a lotto ticket.

I also read Barngani (lol), and Granger (which I think is interesting). Maybe I should set my sights lower, but I was hoping for a little more a guy like Frye/Martin.

Not so much that, more the fact he hasnt averaged double figures in 4 seasons, he is more fragile than Andy and has lost his shooting touch from early days in Indiana.

Great points, you've convinced me to stop living in the past with Granger.
