Bruce very lucky that 3rd strike wasn't called on the 3-2 pitch, which loaded the bases for Pena with one out.

And Pena lines into a DP to end the rally before it generated a run. 1-0 Nats after one. Gio will probably get in his rhythm from here!

Good strategy by Hamilton to go on Gio's first move knowing that Zimmerman has the bad throwing shoulder!

Hamilton from 1st to 3rd on BP's AB. Lets see if Joey can get him in with one out.

Joey gets the SF that carries over the fence for a HR instead. 2-1 Reds!

Iglesias dug himself a hole by hitting Gio on a bunt attempt. Byrd made a great play backing up Hamilton's futile diving try to get Span's drive, but Cozart's relay to home was not the best and the tying run scored.

That reliever, Treinen, has wicked stuff(86-87 sharp slider and 97-98 sinker) and is hard to hit and catch! Pena went from 1st to 3rd on pitches that got away from the catcher and Cozart couldn't get the bat on the ball except for a tick foul that saved a 3rd strike.

BP lost out on the DP opportunity to really help Lorenzen out after he walked the 1st two in the 7th, by not promptly(like a QB should) going thru his options! And Lorenzen follows that by walking his 3rd to load the bases with 1 out and a 2-0 lead, then turning the mess over to JJ Hoover.

And Hoover promptly gives up another big hit to Michael Taylor to tie the game at 2. Then a fortunate line drive DP gets the Reds out of the inning with the game still tied

Said it before, but many people razzed LaRussa for hitting a pitcher 8th. I said a couple of weeks ago that I would have to study data on a game by game basis over time before I totally shitcanned the idea. I kind of like having another guy ahead of the leadoff spot to get on base. I am not 100% sold, but not 100% against it. I imagine there are times the 8 hole comes up and the pitcher hoses it, but then again many times the 8 hole guy comes up he gets pitched around anyways.

Hamilton said in an interview the other day he likes hitting lower as he doesnt have to take as many pitches. As a LO he feels the need to take more pitches instead of just going out and hitting.
