When the play clock is about to run out ? To me, avoiding a 5 yard penalty is not worth using a timeout, but it seems as though teams would rather use a timeout than get the penalty. Am I the only one that feels this way, or are there others out there like me?

Completely depends on what part of the game, score, etc.

Depends on the situation. 3rd and goal from the 1? You bet I'm burning a timeout.

Ok, I agree there are certainly situations where you use the timeout. What I'm talking about is your run of the mill, 2nd and 5, 1st and 10, 3rd and 3 type situations, where it still seems like teams would rather use a timeout than take the penalty.

Would you rather have 1st and 10 or 1st and 15?? Or 3rd and short or 3rd and medium-long?

Depends. If it's the first drive of the half, for example, the time out is more valuable to me.wildcats20 wrote: Would you rather have 1st and 10 or 1st and 15??

Would you rather have to rush a game winning FG or have a timeout to call so you don't have to rush it?wildcats20 wrote: Would you rather have 1st and 10 or 1st and 15?? Or 3rd and short or 3rd and medium-long?

depends on the team also. Team like the Colts can get 2nd and 15 as easily as they can get 2nd and 10.

This. If you are a wide open, explosive, passing offense, then it doesn't really matter, unless you are playing a great defense. If your offense runs the ball often, then those 5 yards can kill you.Laley23 wrote: depends on the team also. Team like the Colts can get 2nd and 15 as easily as they can get 2nd and 10.
