Cardinals beat Cueto and then had 12 baserunners in 5 2/3 versus Homer.

Leake struggles with Jay, Fat, Peralta, Yadi, Wong and everyone struggles with Carpenter. He may not do as good as Homer.

Reds facing Wainright....will either bust him up a bit but more likely just will be overmatched.

Reds lose 7-1

After the Reds tie it and have 2 on and 2 out and Bruce up, who crushed the ball the 1st time against Wainright, a terrible call on a curve that stayed outside to even the count at 1-1, and Bruce subsequently grounded out on the 2-2 pitch to end the threat. Not at all fair -- bring on telemetry called balls and strikes to speed up the game and make it so much more fair!

I have a feeling this game is going to involve JJ Hoover, Jumbo Diaz or Kevin Gregg and some late-inning Cardinal magic.

Cardinal's fundamentally sound offensive execution puts the game in their control!

Nevermind. Leake blows it. Exactly why I would NEVER pay him a dime once he hits FA.

And it stays in the Card's control to the end as they cannot turn a lead-off single into the tying run! Cards just plain superior!

The Reds offense makes the Tribe seem downright prolific, and we are beyond shameful.

I feel bad for you folks.

Good for you. Pretty much a replay of about 50% of Reds' games from last year.

2 words. CAN'T SCORE!

Cards 2 runs for 4 baserunners, Reds 1 run for 10 baserunners.

Brennan Boesch! Hard to believe back in 2010 he almost won AL ROY and was considered the next star OF for Detroit. Good to see him back, he's had a few pretty serious injuries that have derailed his career

? Seriously? 8 inn 4 hits and 2 ER in primetime at St Louis

Could you hate him more? Skip having 4 of the worst at bats ever missing fastballs and even as the last batter wasn't a problem at all.

How did your boy Homer do? 9 hits and 3 BB in 5 2/3 innings? How'd Cueto do versus them?

Lol yeah I didn't watch but it doesn't sound like Leake was the problem today.

Buike has this weird hatred for Leake.

I never blamed Leake for this loss. It just emphasizes that he's not worth 16-20M a year (which is what he will command). See Rick Porcello and Homer Bailey.

Knowing the Reds, they will consider signing him and won't even try with Cueto. Which isn't the right approach at all.

"Leake blows it"

That's blaming him for the loss.

The phrase was more frustration. Only because you could see that outcome coming a mile away. So that's fair. The follow-up comments are true though. It amazes me how this franchise "isn't anywhere close with Cueto" yet are confident they can keep Leake. On what fucking planet? "Not close with Cueto?" WTF are they offering him? Nobody knows what he will accept, but it's hard to imagine the Reds offering him anything less than 6yrs/120M. If they are, well, their loss.

Either way, keep Cueto and roll with Cueto, Bailey and 3 youngsters (Iglesias, DeSclafini, Lorenzen, Howard, Holmberg Travieso, Garrett, Stephenson).

Build the offense around Votto, Hamilton, Mesoraco and Frazier. Don't pay Bruce or Phillips a dime after their contracts are up, and try to trade them before them. Byrd and the expensive bench scraps are gone after this year.

The bullpen, well, a small market that is paying 3 players essentially 60% of the payroll (Cueto, Bailey, Votto), needs to develop arms. You can't continually be paying guys 2-5M to perform like Manny Parra, Kevin Gregg, Sam LeCure and Sean Marshall. You can find guys making 700K to do that, at least short-term.

Leake was fantastic. He had two pitches that stayed over the plate...

The fucking shitty offense is the problem. Leake should have been hitting 6th in that offense last night.

No one likes Leake more than I do and I wouldn't offer more than 3 yrs $40 million.

The Homer contract was wreckless.

Watched two pitches of this series.

Saw Cueto give up that 3 run double, turned it off and didnt watch again all weekend.
