TV timeouts occur under 16, 12, 8 and 4. That's never going to change. However, 5 team timeouts for a half is too many. 6 total team timeouts for the game would be fair.
Teams only get 5 timeouts for a game. Unless I'm misreading this, you are way off base. They get 5 a game, max of 4 can roll over to 2nd half.

This.

If you don't burn one in the first half you lose it.

Call me crazy, but I thought they got wiped and went up to 5 timeouts to start the 2nd.

I'm in agreement with this. There are way too many timeouts in the game especially once you factor in all the TV timeouts. I'd like to see full timeouts eliminated entirely and each team is given 6 20 second timeouts for the entire game.

You are agreeing with AZ, who unknowingly was advocating to add 2 timeouts.

I would like to see all 30 second timeouts as well though, sans the first called TO of the 2nd half which becomes a media timeout.

AZ and I rarely disagree. Are you surprised?

The one thing I'd like to see changed about timeouts is the ability to call live ball timeouts. It's aggravating to see a team get caught in a trap defense and pull up the dribble too quickly and call a timeout, or someone falls and gets a timeout in before a jump ball is called. I can't imagine that in any other sport: quarterback and running back get confused on an audible and instead of getting hit with the sure loss of yards they call a timeout mid-play to avoid it?

I've just always hated it...and wish it would go away.

Sometimes I don't even bother reading the posts, I just see the person and auto agree with what they say.

I'm perfectly fine with 5 TOs and losing 1 if you don't use it in the first half. I would like to see them all 30s.

And of course the live ball timeout needs to go.

Agreed. It's one of the worst rules in sports. If they don't want to have a jump ball you simply grant possession to the last team on defense.

I would like to see them all be 30 as well, maybe 1 full I guess.
But 5 is too many I think.

Coaches spend the first half + of a full timeout talking amongst themselves as it is. No need for fulls, IMO.

Having been around basketball at every level but the pros; I can say full timeouts are a waste of time.

Haha, my gross negligence of paying attention to resetting timeouts after watching thousands of games leads to a grand discussion.

Regardless, shorten the timeouts and games where you can. We won't be able to get away from TV timeouts, but I agree with the shot clock at 30 and less timeouts overall. The jump ball thing is stupid too, I never understood why they don't actually have a jump ball when necessary.

I'd also like to see the flagrant 1/2 rules changed to include flopping as well. It drives me crazy that a guy who gets absolutely mugged on a rebound can acrue a foul for elbows. It should absolutely be a flagrant for the play like Dakari Johnson hitting Chris Jones with a "fake elbow."

I'd also be in favor of timeouts called within 30 seconds of the next TV timeout to just become the TV timeout.

That is not feasible in the industry, though would be great for the fans.

Interesting. The Florida job comes up on May 1st and all of the sudden, certain coaches may come into play.

I doubt they could get Gregg Marshall, but Archie Miller is definitely someone to keep an eye on. He's got a good team returning at UD, but he's also got very high stock right now and like Texas, Florida is a job with great security, a boat load of recruiting opportunities and the cash to back it up from football.

You know I disagree with the thread OP. It looks like next year will be dominated by older teams with great returning players as opposed to great freshman teams. Carolina, Maryland, Iowa State, Kansas all bring essentially the whole team back

I'm not sure the original post said anything about this not being the case.

Also, bringing a whole team back doesn't always guarantee much on this level. For instance, Michigan State loses 2 guys in Trice and Dawson, but could easily be better. That doesn't mean they go further, but be a better team.

Saw where Miller and Mack from X could be possibilities.

Would suck to lose either one of those guys.
