David Letterman's final Late Show episode will air on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, CBS announced on Dec. 10. "David Letterman has given to all of us a remarkable legacy of achievement and creative brilliance that will never be forgotten," CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves said in a statement.


Do ya think Stephen Colbert will be better than Dave? Does Paul and the band retire or stay on?
How many of you grew up watching Dave or were you Carson/Leno fans? Will be interesting to see how the show goes when Colbert take over.

Used to stay up to 1am as a kid to watch his first half hour of stuff.

His act grew old and havent watched for a number of years.

Same as Fab if I see anything it's usually A YouTube clipbfrom Fallon. However I did see that Spike Tv has a show that's totally ripping off Fallon. It's called celebrity lip sync off.

Back in college, my friends and I tended to watch various late night stuff, mainly Letterman. I liked it, but after I graduated, I really didn't watch it any longer. I don't watch much TV aside from various sporting events and the occasional laughably bad SyFy original horror movie.

I never thought he was that funny, and his left leaning politics just pissed me off. Carson/ Leno would poke fun at both sides. and sooo much funnier.

I don't think he cares considering he was their first guest, lol.

I do love Jimmy Fallon, and I try to watch clips from his show. I just don't watch whole episodes on a nightly basis.

They didn't rip anything off. The show was his idea after the success of his lip synch segments on The Tonight Show. He serves as an Executive Producer.

As for the late night wars, I'm a Kimmel fan.

The only ripoff is Jimmy Fallon and BuzzFeed lol.

And if we're being technical, the lip sync battle idea actually came from Stephen Merchant and John Krasinski. They brought the idea to Fallon, who made it super popular. And now all three are executive producers on the Spike show.


For the topic at hand. I always liked Letterman more than Leno. But I think it's definitely time he hangs it up. I'm still very interested to see how people react to Colbert without the character. He's going to lose some of the Colbert fans who liked him because of his character, but I'll think he'll pick up fans from people who don't go for the over-the-top caricature.

Also, Paul and the band are done, too. Not sure who Colbert will bring on, if he brings anyone at all.

I have watched Letterman since he started. I know he rubs some people the wrong way but I find him entertaining. He has done some of his best work in years in the last few months. His interview segment with Urban Myer was a classic. I think Colbert will be okay I will give him a chance.

Honestly, yeah. I notice it on both sides -- the complete refusal to listen to anything the other side says or work to compromise. I think, the more a person gets into politics, the more they enter this moronic "everything my side stands for is RIGHT and if you disagree, you're a MORON" mindset. I have a good friend who's reasonably far to the left and he's basically QQuaker, where wins by the half of BIG GOVERNMENT you're deluded into believing has your interests in mind are a personal victory and the other side is less "other citizens with differing opinions on stuff" and more "THE ENEMY!!!!!!". I mean, I've heard him go on rants just like QQuaker, but from the other side, where you get the idea he looks at Rs as subhuman drek.

It'd be this hilarious perfect storm of self-delusional whackos going at each other, if not for the fact it makes it hard for anything to actually get accomplished when you have all the idiots screaming about every single thing the other side says or does to the point where you'd get more actual intelligence from a group of grade-school kids arguing whether they want pizza or hot dogs.

Like thavoice, I watched Letterman religiously as a very young kid, as he was my mother's favorite late night talk show host. On summer nights, I would stay up with her nearly every evening and watch the whole show and then the next day write my own "material" based on Dave's style and perform it for my mom at my little desk with a toy microphone (I was probably 8 at the time, but I had some killer Bill Clinton jokes). I dreamed of one day having my own late night talk show.

As the years passed, I gradually watched Letterman less and less, as his act (Top Ten list, Stupid Human Pet Tricks, etc.) simply became monotonous. In all honestly, he probably stayed on a decade too long. But he was an icon, probably the best to ever do what he did. While his show was a shell of its former self near the end, he never lost that trademark wit and is still the best interviewer in the business The man is so damn mentally sharp. A comedic genius, without question.

The biggest reason that I do not watch him is that he is just not funny. Why waste my time watching someone who does not entertain me. Let me be clear, his overt liberalness and hate for anything conservative is NOT why I do not find him funny....it is just a general comment.

As for his political leanings, he is the one who brought his political views into his show and his commentary. Once he broached those topics and leanings, it was absolutely fair game for people to not like him for his views.

No 'party-trap' here.....and someone from Hollywood is no where near important enough to categorize as an 'arch-enemy'. They simply do not matter that much in the entire scheme of things....except in their own minds.
