How did Rolf do? Matt and Rolf were on a couple baseball teams together when they were younger and have been friends since so I have always taken interest in how he does. Good athlete, even better person!

I read the article in the Blade this morning. I believe he had 14 pts and 12 boards.
Did Rothenbuhler play? I know he ended his football season early due to injuries, I was wondering if he is healthy?

classyposter- A little early for the clear-cut favorite talk. You think you would have learned after all that talk about your football squad having a ticket punched to the final 4 in August.

Rothenbuhler played but was in foul trouble all night. Picked up his 3rd foul late in the 2nd quarter and his 4th in the 3rd I believe. He did miss the last 2 football games due to groin injury. But I think that has pretty much heeled up.

Finals from tonight
McComb 74
Elmwood 66
Oak Harbor 61
Woodmore 55
Leading scorers for Elmwood were Tyson with 20 pts 9 rebounds, Rothenbuhler 12 pts and 8 assists, and TJ Waldock 10pts.
The Royals were outscored from the FT line 23-11 and committed 10 more TOs than McComb. That sums it up. Oh, and the score was tied at 48 going into the 4th quarter.

Wow, I thought last year's Genoa/Clyde game that had something like 45 fouls in it was bad. Let the kids play. I was more suprised with the final score though. Oak Harbor isn't too good this year and people from Woodmore were picking the Wildcats to have a very good season. Sounds like Woodmore better bounce back or they won't compete too well.

I wouldnt read too much into it bw. Remember last year when Oak Harbor handled Woodmore?
The Clyde vs. Genoa game last year was as close to a joke as i've ever seen on a court. How those ref's were allowed to call another game after that is beyond me.

Been to both Elmwood games and the officials in both games were terrible and very inconsistant.

I think its easier to point out the games that have been well officiated. Too many officials think people buy a ticket to watch them put on a show.

While I Would agree with you about the desire of some officials to be the center of attention, I would also observe that there are quite a few fans that go to the game with the same goal. It has been my experience that the louder the fan, the less they really seem to know about basketball. I think the primary difference between an official and a fan is that the fan often times doesn't really want a fair game called, they want the game called in favor of their team. The officials, hopefully, wants to try to the best of their ability, to make sure that the kids on both teams get a fair, consistent effort from the officials and everyone has an enjoyable athletic experience, win or lose. I think that without question, the officials get a lot more calls correct than the fans, and given the fact that we are all human, I think that's the best we can expect. I would also observe that fans sometimes come to the games after having a few libations to allow them to unwind. it occasionally blurs their vision as well as their objectivity. I believe that the officials have a very difficult job. don't really make much money, and are doing the very best they can.

The Genoa vs. Oak Harbor game was well officiated I thought for High School. One official didnt know what an over the back call was so he used a charging foul (I kid you not)...He was friendly so we asked him if he knew that he was calling the wrong signs during a break...he said he was still in football mode.
Overall though, the high school refs are terrible. They either love to hear their own whistle or they dont know how to let the young men play and its a shame. If the SLL refs went to the city leagues and tried callin those games....100 fouls might be called.

TalkisCheap: Couple of questions: 1. What is "an over the back call"? 2. What does "let the young men play" mean? Obviously, I have opinions about these questions but I'd like to hear from you first, since you mentioned both of these.

Richard Wonnell got called for over the back...honestly I dont know what over the back call is, however, I know its not a charging call. Also, he didnt even touch the guy. You will see this with Rolf and Wonnell... they are tall! Dont call fouls on them for being tall! Refs need to QUITE their whistle a bit... its annoying! (in Oak Harbor vs Genoa JV game they had over 30 fouls in the second half...varsity game didnt start till about 8)
"let the young men play"......if the game is bumping and grinding let them do just that. Come this friday....Wonnell and Rolf will bump and grind, dont have the refs determine the game. Let the kids play and if a ref determines the outcome of a game shame on them.

I saw that over the back call. It wasn't really over the back as much as the Oak Harbor player was closeer to the basket and Wonnell ended up getting it so the ref had to call a foul. Neither were really in position. Had it been during a more competitive game or greater circumstances I would have had more concern for it but it wasn't.
I don't see too many fouls being called between Rolf and Wonnell friday night. They are practically side by side all night whenever Genoa plays Eastwood and in the past the whistle has been quiet. It seems like the refs know that if they get one into foul trouble it will basically determine the game. Genoa will need to utilize their advantage over Eastwood at guard with Bassitt and Eli in order to win. Eastwood is the deeper team, so Genoa has to control the tempo, limit turnovers, and stay out of foul trouble in order to win.

Elmwood over Lake 72-51
Tyson with 16, Hannah 13, Hammer 12, and Rothenbuhler 9.
Not sure how many 3's Elmwood made, but it had to be at least 8 or 9. Edit: They made 10 3's

Man the Sll is just not good in basketball. Both teams played very sloppy all night. Been like this for a while now in this league.
