I read on another post the seeding is done on the day of the tournament. Is this true?

What time do they estimate wrestling will start?

No more picking your line? Why? who came up with this idea and was this voted on by the coaches?

Seems like we will lose coaching strategy and utilizing favorable matchups.

It was "mapped out" and voted on ten days prior to the sectional selection meeting.

Pretty sure it should still start on time each coach sends in all the info ahead of time like SC,SP,SQ,DP, DQ season record head to heads so there really shouldn't be a lot of changes without picking lines and what have you the time spent in seeding should really be cut down to almost 0 they just plug in the names and see where they fall.

Also, you're limited on what you can argue/challenge, state placers, state qualifiers, and district placers are automatically seeded, then win %. Challenges can only happen with head to head match-ups and only and when it comes to win % criteria only. This will cut down on time, plus from what I read the seed meeting runs the same time weigh-ins happen.

Is that specific to the Central District? Here is what is listed for the D3 Blanchester sectional:

"*Seeds based on criteria – see 2015 OHSAA Wrestling Individual Tournament Regulations• All wrestlers with a .500 record or better from the current season (minimum of 12 matches) will be seeded.• District boards have the authority to determine the final number of seeds per weight class up to a maximum of 8, we willseed 6 based on criteria.• A seeding meeting will be held during weigh-ins. Coach’s challenges to criteria will be discussed. Head to head, highertournament placement will be discussed.• If seeding by vote/concession, head-to-head and higher placement in the same weight class at common tournaments maybe considered. The coach’s vote or concession will be final.• The seeds will be placed on the preliminary bracket in accordance with Rule 10 of the NFHS Wrestling Rules Book.• Byes and non-seeded wrestlers will be placed on the bracket by the computer"

That sounds very different from the procedure you listed above?

The PTB told the coaches that state wanted it to be uniform.

This is ridiculous.

That's the feeling I'm getting too. In addition to the Blanchester criteria, I think I remember reading on another forum that one of the sectionals in another district is actually still having the "traditional" coaches seeding meeting. This is far from uniformity...

What I got was from the central district, but like Cruiser said it's supposed to be uniform across the board. Listed below is what I got from Sandy Valley.

A. Seeding will be based on the following criteria:
a. State Place in OHSAA Tournament last year – in order of place.
b. District Place in OHSAA Tournament last year – in order of place.
c. Current overall record (12-match minimum and .500 or better winning percentage).
i. If there is a tie in winning percentage the wrestler with the most wins will receive the higher seed.
ii. If that does not break the tie, a coin-flip will determine the seed.
d. Challenges will be permitted based on head-to-head competition and common tournament placement.
i. A coach’s vote or concession of all will be the final determination.

wraith and dad4, where did you find these regulations? This is not what we have been told, and the challenges are different? If this is true, then our district officials need to be made aware.

My post (#12) is what I copied and pasted what I got from the East since that is where we are for sectionals.

Post #8 is what I got from the central, but that was me paraphrasing and I could have easily messed that up.

Here is what I have from the central:

B. Seeding will be based on the following criteria:
a. State Place in OHSAA Tournament last year – in order of place.
b. District Place in OHSAA Tournament last year – in order of place.
c. Current overall record (12-match minimum and .500 or better winning percentage).
i. If there is a tie in winning percentage the wrestler with the most wins will receive the higher seed.
ii. If that does not break the tie, a coin-flip will determine the seed.
iii. Challenges will only be permitted for seeds based on records. Head-to-head competition will be the basis for the challenge. A coach’s vote or concession will be the final determination of the seed in such a case.

This is what I found different between the East and Central:

Challenges will be permitted based on head-to-head competition and common tournament placement.
i. A coach’s vote or concession of all will be the final determination.

I believe that it is the Millbury Lake D3 sectional that is holding an "old-fashioned" coaches seeding meeting...scheduled to be held on Thursday night.

I think this will effect the wrestlers that wrestle tough schedule. They might be pretty good but their record might not show it. They may get the lower seed even though they beat the kid with the better record.

If I read it correctly, if a guy is seeded based solely on record a coach can challenge head to head, it's when a wrestler is seeded on criteria (state Placer or qualifier for example) then that cannot be challenged.

Despite the OHSAA's best efforts, it appears that different sectionals will still be using a different processes/criteria...just like in years past.

What is the logic behind the seeding change? i just don't see the point. This takes away coaching strategy and teams with "tougher schedules" will get lower seeds due to records. Maybe i'm missing something, but I sure don't get it.

No. You're not missing anything. Coaches are pretty much up in arms about it.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. How many coaches will actually persue challenges for seeding with this new system, will they even be able to chellenge what they want..etc. Seems like this could/will create a lot of hassle for the tourney directors.
