So I was reading Wikipedia,

Al queda has this strategy that is supposed to defeat US by 2020.

This is from a 2005 book and to summarize:

They have short term goals every 3 years. They want people to join their movement in a less centralized way more so join the shared idea.

They want to establish a caliphate

Then they want to provoke the US into fighting then in multiple places. They feel this will destroy the US economy and lead to our demise.

With ISIS forming this is scary shit.

Atwan also noted, regarding the collapse of the U.S., "If this sounds far-fetched, it is sobering to consider that this virtually describes the downfall of the Soviet Union."[90]

According to Fouad Hussein, a Jordanian journalist and author who has spent time in prison with Al-Zarqawi, Al Qaeda's strategy plan consists of 7 phases and is similar to the plan described in Al Qaeda's Strategy to the year 2020:[92]

The Awakening. This phase was supposed to last from 2001 to 2003. The goal of the phase is to provoke the United States to attack a Muslim country by executing an attack on US soil that kills many civilians.
Opening Eyes This phase was supposed to last from 2003 to 2006. The goal of this phase was to recruit young men to the cause and to transform the Al Qaeda organization into a movement. Iraq was supposed to become the center of all operations with financial and military support for bases in other states.
Arising and Standing up, was supposed to last from 2007 to 2010. In this phase Al Qaeda wanted to execute additional attacks and focus their attention on Syria. Hussein believed that other countries in the Arabic Peninsula were also in danger.
In the fourth phase, Al Qaeda expected a steady growth among their ranks and territories due to the declining power of the regimes in the Arabic Peninsula. The main focus of attack in this phase was supposed to be on oil suppliers and Cyberterrorism, targeting the US economy and military infrastructure.
The fifth phase is the declaration of an Islamic Caliphate, which was projected between 2013 and 2016. In this phase Al Qaeda expected the resistance from Israel to be heavily reduced.
The sixth phase is described as the declaration of an "Islamic Army" and a "fight between believers and non-believers", also called "total confrontation".
Definitive Victory, the seventh and last phase is projected to be completed by 2020. The world will be "beaten down" by the Islamic Army. According to the 7 phase strategy, the war isn't projected to last longer than 2 years.

You can say what you want about Newt Gingrich, but he had a great take on this at the Iowa Freedom Conference.

It's a bit long but worth the listen. While he doesn't point to this strategy specifically, he does point out that we seem to be oblivious to the fact that we are under attack.

really....at least in'06 it was confined to Iraq....now it's all over the middle east, Africa, the internet, targets threatened in this country, and in Canada and Great Britain.

And the Taliban was in a resurgence in 2006 in Af/Pak and that is off the top of my head.

I would take the dispersion of small attacks over the civil war in Iraq in 2006.
I don't think people remember how bloody it was.
We lost over 800 soldiers in 2006 and over 900 in 2007.

I think what was scary to me is they were trying to establish a belief system so insurgency didn't have to come directly from AL QUEDA .. Offsprings like ISIS is what they wanted to pop up and that is happening.

I agree. That is why I advocate leadership in forming an Arab coalition to rid themselves of these vile elements. The question is do they really want to rid themselves of them or are they worried the West will not have there back after they do the dirty work.

I think ptown is about right on the numbers of US troops and the lack of support it would have in Congress (which is what I assume he meant by it not being realistic). That could change with leadership. Currently there is no leadership at all in putting a professional multi-national army on the ground to destroy these shit bags. There should be a large Arab participation in any coalition. Also the gloves have to be off none of this COIN shit. If you have seen images of Kobane, Syria it has been razed to the ground WWII style. They are still picking the dead from the rubble by the dump truck load. Its horrible what has to be done to remove a determined enemy that has entrenched itself in an urban environment. You can see that every city taken by them ensures more future death and destruction.

The enemy is counting on the West and their feckless politicians to eventually cave and engage them in a war of attrition sending young people to die under ridiculous rules of engagement. This must never be permitted to happen.

Dozens of Syrian women and children abducted today by Allah's gang. It's only a matter of time until Pregnant children are paraded on our TV screens. Oh, I think that is entirely correct, but it shows specifically that nature abhors a vacuum...especially a political power vacuum. When we withdraw...be it militarily or diplomatically or by lack of will, something else moves in, and more often than not, it is not favorable to us and the western world.

The big spark for war between nation states exists not in the Middle East but north of ISIS held territory in Europe. Our enemies understand this fully. What puzzles me is those that turn their backs on the realities of this world and attempt to fault a nation that has existed for just over a couple of centuries for all the evil foisted upon this world. The world is a shitty place but if an empire has ever arisen for the greater good in this shitty mess its been the United States. Our nation is not perfect by any means. We all have our issues with it but on the worlds scale it is a force of good and I am not ashamed to say it.
