If that's all that was give up, then I don't mind this deal.

Either he or Quinn will be the backup QB unless they can trade for someone else that the front office thinks may be an answer.

^^^my bad...i read it wrong. Wallace is a Brown for conditional late round pick in 2011. Good pick up IMO...low risk-high reward.

I agree but Wallace does show some potential.

In 2008 when Hasselbeck got hurt he passed for 1500 yards with 11 TDs and only 3 INTs. Seems to be a good fit for what the Browns need.

No real reason for this move.

Wallace isn't the long-term solution as a starter. They'll likely keep Anderson or Quinn so now there are just more average backups. They already have a change-of-pace, slash guy.

Non, you can't really count Cribbs in that equation, he's not been used in a passing capacity. Wallace is a duel threat guy and a change of pace from completely sucking that you see from either Quinn or DA.

I think Anderson and Quinn are as good as Wallace. Wallace just played in a crappy division so he had some easy wins. He'll lead the Browns to a 6-10 or 7-9 record same as Anderson or Quinn with a little better supporting cast than they had this past year.

Holmgren just has him overrated because he's one of his guys.

Seattle has an aging Hasselbeck who keeps getting hurt every year and Mike Teel and they're willing to give up Wallace for practically nothing. Shows what they think of him.

I think this is just a lateral move unless they grab a starter....then I am fine with it.

Wallace is a career backup and that is all he will ever be. He doesn't have the size or the arm strength to be a NFL starter.

The thing that I don't get out of this deal is that I don't see a whole lot of difference between the skill set that Wallace brings to the table and that which Troy Smith brings. But God forbid bringing in Troy Smith, a guy who is damn near begging to be a Brown. I don't think Smith is the answer in Cleveland any more than I think Wallace/Quinn/DA is. I just don't see a difference in their respective games, if someone feels otherwise feel free to enlighten me.

I don't think any of us are considering Wallace as the long-term answer at QB...

I can't bitch a whole lot on the decision. holmgren is the man when it comes to evaluating the QB talent although he def is not the long term answer obviously as he is a 7 year backup w/ spot starts when Hass went down with injury. Seattle may be looking Bradford/Clausen now in the draft as well.

I have a feeling they did this because I'm afraid both DA and Quinn are out...Maybe releasing DA or going to be involved in a trade. Maybe they'll throw Quinn, Rodgers and a later pick? in For McNabb. I dont know just trying to think of what may be going on.

I don't get this trade either. I don't think he's an upgrade over what we have. I guess we have to trust Holmgren in this decision. Obviously, he has something else planned. I don't see him being satisfied with thses 3 QB's heading into the season.

So what's the difference between Seneca Wallace and Troy Smith you might ask?

well let's see:

One wants to be a Brown and the other is forced from a trade.

One has a strong arm while the other does not

One is still young with potential while the other has reached his peak

But the most important thing is that one is Holmgren's puppy dog while the other isn't. I've liked the moves this club has made so far but this is beyond stupid. While the hell would you bring in Wallace and not Smith is BEYOND me.
