Just at a seminar yesterday where we discussed the latest studies and the general consensus on alcohol consumption,... moderate alcohol consumption of 2 drinks a day or less for men, and 1 drink a day for women provides a mild cardiovascular benefit for about 25% of the consumers. For the other 75% , the benefit is overridden by other factors, and provides no net benefit. Increases in the amount above the moderate level, rapidly produces negative results including stroke and cancer. There does not appear sufficient reason to recommend or to dissuade anyone from moderate alcohol consumption. There is a plethora of evidence to warn against consumption of alcohol above those levels.

Well, but they did factor in the good feeling you get from drinking as one of the benefits; that would tilt the scale toward ample net benefit!
