New York (CNN) -- Two New York City police officers were shot and killed ambush-style Saturday afternoon as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn, according to two law enforcement sources.
Both were shot in the head, one of the sources said. Few other details were available.
They were rushed to a hospital in critical condition, said police spokesman Sgt. Lee Jones.
The families of the fallen officers were at Woodhull Medical Center on Saturday, as dozens of police officers gathered in a show of support.
The officers -- one with two years' experience, the other with seven years on the job -- were normally assigned to downtown Brooklyn but were working a "critical response" detail in an area with higher crime, police said.

The post included an image of silver automatic handgun with a wooden handle. Another post showed camouflage pants and blue sneakers which matched the clothing the dead gunman was wearing as his body was carried from the scene on a stretcher.
“They Take 1 Of Ours … Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” the post continued, signing off with, “This May Be My Final Post.”
The gunman was a fugitive who had just murdered his girlfriend in Baltimore Saturday morning, sources told The Post.
Minutes after shooting the two officers, he, too, was dead.
He fled to a nearby subway station, the G-train station at Myrtle and Willoughby avenues, where, as pursuing cops closed in, he shot himself on a crowded platform, sources told The Post.
“They engaged the guy and he did himself,” one investigator said of the gunman’s demise.

Talked about this in history class quite a bit. Socially, especially with the younger (18-30) generation its starting to get pretty bad with the tensions. Seeing protests at BG and all social media is anymore is about this stuff. Pretty safe to say we're one big tragedy away from it being the late 60s all over again

These people that are outraged are delusional. 3 cases of a black kid dying is not some sort of epidemic of police violence occuring against black people. Also - heard this piece of shit was arrested 19 times. I'm sure each time was a case of mistaken identity and he had every right to be upset with the police.

There needs to be a lawsuit filed by the family of the killer who killed himself. If they had not manufactured the gun he never would have been able to commit suicide

Yeah I feel terrible for the guy. Society raised him that way and he was just an innocent sweet baby angel. Why do police have to be so brutal and racist by arresting BLACK people for committing crimes? A Native American was shot a couple days ago in Rapid City, South Dakota. No news about it. He charged a police officer with a knife.
Thankfully, my buddy who is in the RCPD was not involved. Some people...commenting that the police officer "could've shot the guy in the leg."

The police can't help what color a criminals skin is. The media is responsible for these two being dead by reporting false facts and sensationalizing Brown and Garner.

I hate the media. They all push their agendas. (Even the BBC and PBS). The problem is the 24 hour news channels. If we only had the morning 6 and evening news they wouldn't have time to give their opinions just the news. I just want to be informed not persuaded.

I would like to see it put out there that a armed male who pointed a gun at police officers was shot and killed. That really is all that really needs to be reported.
