I had 7 kids fail alpha yesterday. None of which were cutting or even worried about their weight. Anyone else having issues this year?

I actually read a report last year after my son went thru this, that reported about 90 percent of the population is dehydrated. Mostly from caffeine and lack of the proper water intake. Now other then that report that I read, I find the Alpha system flawed so bad that it is almost pointless to have in the first place. Sounds to me you had something like we had last year a trainer or somebody not affiliated with wrestling that follows everything to the pin point and if the pee is not yellow enough god forbid they continue to test. basically the first couple oz of pee is dark yellow then it gets better so i tell the kid to squirt first then fill the cup but make sure you have water in you not just water from lunch three hours ago.

I've always told wrestlers to try to get as close to preferred weight class as possible going into the hydration test, drink water the day before so their urine looks like "lemonade" not "tea" and to always fill cup with mid-stream urine for best result. Haven't had very many issues unless dealing with knuckleheads that don't follow instructions, lol!Tony Mead;1678813 wrote:basically the first couple oz of pee is dark yellow then it gets better so i tell the kid to squirt first then fill the cup but make sure you have water in you not just water from lunch three hours ago.
Also, having a trainer that is knowledgeable and experienced is helpful!

Back when we first started the hydration testing I started telling my kids to drink water 48 hours before the test. The only kids that I’ve had fail the test where the kids that weren’t trying to cut weight. There should be no question if a kid pass the hydration test you can look at their test strip and compare it to the results on the bottle.
The thing that I’ve found strange this year is that when you pull up your Alpha Master Roster and print it out there’s no signature lines on the bottom like it was in the past. Also the way we create and print the pre-match weigh in form is a little different this year.

LOL, just a reference towards being on the lighter (clearer) side rather than darker side of tint in urine.
