Part of the reason I think all drugs should be legalized (no, that doesn't mean I condone all drug use). You'll never eliminate the demand and by keeping it underground you're doing nothing but increasing the odds that something bad is going to happen.

if you're truly for individual freedom then let the people realize the full risk and consequences of their decisions instead of hoping to mitigate it through legislative legalization.

I dont know about that. I think if you take the illegal aspect out of it then many more people will eventually be using. I am not saying the day it becomes legal people go out there and start doing drugs, but over time since it is legal more people will go ahead and do it. For the most part, a vast majority of people follow what the laws say, and make many of their decisions on what to and not to do based on if it is legal or not.
Legalize it all right now and in a couple generations that stigma of dong something wrong is gone and becomes more acceptable for people to do it.


I dont know it this is a good example or not but I live about a mile from my fav bar. If it was legal to have some drinks and drive home, I would, but because it isnt i make other arrangements because I do not want to deal with the legal aspects even though I realize it is not a healthy or safe thing to do. The ticket/fine/suspension is more of a deterrent than a possible accident

The fact that you aren't smart enough to realize that driving drunk is a bad idea without legislation isn't a compelling argument to continue to lock non-violent people in cages for possessing/consuming drugs. I also don't buy that drug use is going to skyrocket if they are no longer criminalized. Put the money we spend on incarceration into health programs. Take away the stigma so that people who truly do have a problem don't feel like they need to hide it and they can get help.

Yes, I am truly for individual freedom. That means I don't want to lock people in cages for the simple act of possessing/consuming a drug.

Here's the thing...it's not a fundamental right to use drugs. So long as it's not, we as a society choose how we want to function as a society and that desire is often times expressed through our legislative representatives. Ultimate individual freedom isn't part of the package. We appear to be working towards the masses desiring legalization of such things...or at least decriminalization of some...until such time....people can roll the dice if they don't agree with they way things are done.

Violence is not what's required for an act to be illegal. The society's desire is....so long as a fundamental right isn't being violated.
