Doctor thinks I have heartburn; anyone have any experience on how long prilosec takes to work? I'm supposed to take the entire package which I think is 2 weeks, but does it take that long to feel the effects?

I was put on Nexium several years ago, which is the identical drug except for one "mirror image" ingredient. My relief started almost immediately. Good luck.

Change your diet, and your heartburn will go away.
Also, stop munching nasty box.

My diet isn't that poor but I do eat a lot of pizza and I drink way too much alcohol.

Alcohol is the culprit. I deal with frequent heartburn and the doctor asked what do I eat/drink most often? I told him I drink lots of beer. He asked how much? and how often? So I answered and he told me "Sir, you have 2 problems: 1. Heartburn 2. Alcoholism
So I now just live with both and pop a tums every now and then!

Had heartburn twice in my life, I am 40. I had it when I was put on steroids after tearing my acl when I was 24 and then again was put on steroids after I had the same knee scoped at 30. I will never take steroids again. Heartburn sucks. My dads first time having heartburn was at 64 when he was put on cholesterol meds.

There isn't an association between steroids and heartburn. Or statins and heartburn for that matter.mcburg93;1657786 wrote:Had heartburn twice in my life, I am 40. I use to eat spicy food all the time, but had to cut back.

Hmmm Guess my doc lied to me. I can give you his number and you can discuss it with him. Hes the one that told me it was due to the steroids he gave me and advised me to quit taking them. Personally I dont care what caused it I just know it sucked and hope I never have to deal with it again.GOONx19;1657796 wrote:There isn't an association between steroids and heartburn. I watched very little as I'm a baseball first guy. I did see the hideous ending but also expected that kind of game as my thread about the game clearly shows.

One spoonful of apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg, the organic stuff) and my heartburn is gone. Doesn't taste the best, but you get used to it after a while. But heartburn is gone within ten seconds. At one point after discovering that it works, I used to eat foods to get heartburn just so I could experience getting rid of heartburn.
