09/11/01 - Never forget

Should today be a federal holiday? I know that it is a national day of remembrance, but I also feel that it should be a federal holiday, and treated almost as sacredly as the 4th of July.

Personally, I'd like to see TUESDAY, September 11th be honored in some way. It comes around every 11th or 12th year. Same would go for December 7th. The tough thing for that is that it was a Sunday.

I would hate to see it turned into a 3-day weekend, that's for sure.

Are there any holidays that aren't for celebration? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Non religious that is.

I think those are celebrating their lives. I don't think there is a holiday celebrating a tragic event.

No. But the horrific attacks should be aired/replayed to keep us mindful of the threats and embolden our vigilance.

Remembered forever, but not a holiday.

Like others have said, Pearl Harbor isn't, neither should 9/11 be.

Oh, and to answer peoples questions, Memorial Day is SUPPOSED to be somber, not celebratory.

Since Memorial Day is supposed to be a day to remember and reflect, than I think Memorial Day encompasses both Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

If Pearl Harbor isn't which is a day most people completely forget about entirely, 9/11 shouldn't be either.

I'm not sure that waking up mid-morning and immediately starting drinking is the best way to remember an event like that.

Not a day off of work type of holiday celebration but do believe in putting flags at half mast on 9/11.

FYI...it is usually called half-mast on water based flagpoles such as ships and such, and half-staff for land based.

and I agree with you. Think ever flag I saw was half-staff
