http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/oh-cuyahoga/classmates-dump-bodily-fluids-onto-autistic-teen-during-als-ice-bucket-challenge-in-bay-village

My opinion on this case is evolving. The story still looks bad to me. I am very perplexed though by the willingness of people to send money to the family of the victim AND that family's willingness to accept it. I don't see at all where this is a case where giving money has any place. There are no injuries, no medical bills, no property damage. I have learned that the boy's mother went to the news with this story several weeks after it actually happened. I have learned that the boy, while technically autistic, is mild on the "spectrum", and engages in school and extracurricular activities much like normal students. I have learned that the boy has been apart of this group of friends as a member (and not as a follower) for quite sometime - including all the time after this incident right up until the mother informed the media.

I don't know that these things change the original story. But I am seeing more that this incident could have been in the context of several other stupid Jackass-type stunts that this group pulled. Perhaps there are videos of this group doing all sorts of dumbass things and this kid's video just happened to be one.

I will wait to hear the facts. In the meantime, I am sorry to see the celebrity set coming in (ill informed as usual), offering a completely unnecessary reward, and putting the spotlight squarely on themselves. The fact that the family has openly solicited funds and is accepting them makes me EXTREMELY suspicious of their motives from the beginning.

I like the one comment about the punishment being to volunteer time with autistic children.

I put 5% of the blame on the autistic kid.

Better punishment would be to have those kids clean all the city porta-potty used for all events for the next year.
Hose, clearner and scrub brush..... have fun..

As a father of a son with high functioning autism (Aspberger's) this kills me on the inside. I am not a violent person, but if this was my kid I SWEAR I would be at every parents house wanting to beat the hell out of the father who raised a kid to act like that.

Being in education, I've seen it many times where great parents have asshole kids. Sometimes it's not the parents... kids are just freaking idiots.

Sometimes you are right, but majority of the time no. When kids are young it typically is a direct result of their parents. Whether it is discipline, giving them everything they want growing up, etc, the parents in most cases directly or indirectly cause their kids to grow up being assholes.

I agree. If someone did this to my brother-in-law I would be ready to beat the fuck out of the entire family of those shitheads.

Had to look up where Bay Village was, never heard of the town before. Horrific story. Not sure what has happened in the last several years, although social media hasn't helped much, but this stuff is getting out of control. There has always been the element of bullying but nothing like this - the idea that anyone at my (admittedly shitty public) HS would do anything like this would result in immediate expulsion. Not sure the perps involved need to have a criminal record, but a very strong suspension and monitoring seems to be appropriate.

My dad, brother and brother in law are in education and when it comes to parent teacher conferences the parents that usually take the time to show up are the ones of the good kids and the parents they actually need/want to talk to because their kids are bad usually blow it off and dont show.

Good parenting goes way beyond being a good person. You can be the best human ever and raise a shitty kid if you don't know what good parenting is.

Thankful I had great parents, who had great parents, etc. It's such a huge trickle down effect.

Drew Carey is offering $10k towards the apprehension & conviction of these NEO scum. You can be sure at least one of them was wearing some kind of Clowns or Cavs shit on while he committed this crime. If only that poor kids family could somehow raise the money to escape that hell hole and move to an area where people treat one another like humans and not run around barking with dog masks on.

Jenny McCarthy is matching Drew Carey's $10k.

What the big surprise here. Those argent, superiority mentality kids in Bay Village and what they did to an autistic student is a perfect demonstration of the attitude of many of today’s youth and others that hide behind a computer keyboard.
OC is another example of that superiority educated attitude of today’s population, the OC, bantering, slandering and badgering others OC members with the perception that nobody will know the coward they really are.
I have done it, I’m the first to admit wrong, poor judgment and lack of respect to others. We all need to look deeper at who we are and who we want to be. There had been a few OC members that opinion of me was wrong, I had made a effort to befriend them, meet them and communicate face to face (without weapons)…. We are friends now and that’s a good thing. Cost me a corn beef sandwich, a golf game and a visit to a hospital, well worth the time and friendship.
I welcome any OC member that has a conflict with me or others to meet each other.
If those Bay Village kids took the time to understand autism, learning disabilities, and stepping out of their superiority stupor they could learn more.
