I have interest in the actual season (particularly the postseason), but I can catch up on the significant changes before that happens. I don't think I pay a huge amount of attention to off-season workings in any sport, other than what affects my teams.

Lots of overpayments today.

Sad to see DMac leave the CBJ.

Its much better than Soccer though, much much more popular. I cant believe people even watch the world cup when we can follow the Hockey FA frenzy to see which Canadians and eastern Europeans with names nobody can pronounce go where

You do realize that a "one sport's greatest event that only happens once per four years is more interesting to people than the off-season of a league that competes every year" is a pretty weak attempt at ribbing anyone, regardless of how douchey Ted has been on the subject, I hope.

Meh, the NFL random thread had a lot of activity during FA and the draft. Same with the nba's off season thread. Hell, the mlb hot stove threads get way more activity too.

True, but the main pro sports groups here seem to be Cleveland in general and the Cincinnati Reds. Neither of those cities have an NHL team and the only in-state one has been primarily a bottom-feeder with two one-round playoff appearances in its 15-20 years of existence, so the fact there isn't much hockey talk here doesn't surprise me.

Now, I will say that hockey doesn't do itself any favors, letting itself stick with an absolute dud of a TV contract that ensures YOUR ESPN OVERLORDS will do nothing beyond the bare minimum of promoting it. Which is why I look at Gary Bettman as the worst commissioner by far, which says a lot, since I don't know that I've ever given Selig or Goodell more than a back-handed compliment and the only thing I really have said positive about Stern is that as a businessman, he did an amazing job of turning the NBA from kind of a niche sport into something that has saturated our national sports media.
