I was grateful to meet him a few years back as he did an event on my ship to help people quit tobacco and chewing tobacco. RIP way too young to die.

Tony Gwynn is the best pure hitter since Ted Williams. The season he was chasing .400 (finished .394) was the strike season of 1994, he was batting .426 over the last 30 games they played that season. He was definitely close to being the first since Williams to hit .400 for a season, if not for the strike.
The insanely low number of strike outs each season was just plain stupid to show how good he really was.
