The Dear leader is planning on putting the coal industry to death tomorrow with his ambitious new climate change targets that will require cutting emissions at existing plants by 30%.

Analysts say it will be the death of the coal industry in this country, and as such will send natural gas prices skyrocketing when everyone starts switching over.

Does anyone on the board work in the coal industry? Ohio could be hit hard by this as well as neighboring states.

Coastal liberal elites are doing cartwheels right now that they have finally been able to ram this through without the consent of Congress.

Most of my family and some friends work in the coal industry. I'll believe it will be the "death" of the industry when I see it. I've been hearing how Obama is going to kill the industry since he was elected. And Im not an Obama fan.

I wonder if this will in anyway put Durbin (SML from Illinois) in danger. IL is a big coal producing state. Otherwise, I expect if Repubs gain control of the Senate in 2014 and/or the POTUS in 2016 this action will be reversed.

But perfect example that doing "something" because of Climate Change isn't harmless. The misallocation of resources and various taxes have very real negative economic effects.

They would need to win the Presidency.

Obama would veto any bill that clamps down on the EPA.

Going after existing power plants has always been the thing the industry will struggle to meet as far as these new targets. That is why it is so different this time.

Over on the Daily Kos right now there are posts about people wanting to bring charges up against the Koch brothers for "crimes against humanity" for their funding of climate change denialism.

These are very very sick people we are dealing with, and they have the freedom to be lawless as long as they hold the presidency.

Just like when we sentence prisoners to die they don't take them straight to the gallows.

Today was the death sentence, and it will take about 20 years to carry out.

The technology doesn't even exist that will allow existing plants to meet these targets, and at some point that will drive them out of business.

That is what the Dear Leader and coastal liberals everywhere wants.

Shale Gas will be the coal of today's Generation and there is plenty of it. However, the jobs associated with Shale require a modicom of education. Pick 6' 7th Grade educated Dad ain't gettin' a job in the Shale fields.

We are already seeing electricity rates 40 - 50% higher on renewals this year, in Ohio and elsewhere. When you add such historic cost increases onto businesses, on top of obamaKare, it is very easy to see how growth grinds to a halt, or even reverses as happened in Q1 (minus 1%). How can you afford to hire the next guy, or buy a new truck, or add a production line ............ the hits just keep on coming.

Nearly half the nation's electricity comes from coal; to unilaterally decide with executive fiat that this is going to change will cause substantial economic turmoil. We have marxists using the EPA and other regulatory agencies to thrust their agenda upon the people, forcing the removal of resources used to generate energy and economic livelihoods. It is not rocket science why we are still in repression; no one in their right mind would risk capital so long as this regime is in power.

It is nearly unimaginable what is occurring in the USA.

The coal industry will be pretty much dead in 20 years regardless. At least in Ohio.

Lol. Between that and the cattle, I guarantee by old man pulls in more than your old ass. Do you know how much the coal mine pays? Not many place you can make 80k right out of high school. Besides, my family has already cashed in big time from the shale boom. On top of that they are getting ready to run pipeline through the property and are looking to put two drill pads on it.

Also, the O&G gas companies do hire any dumb fuck. They have to keep hiring the out of stater's because the trash in the area can't pass drug tests.
