OC Friends:

I have a son home from college - weighs about 185-190. Which open mats in Central Ohio would be the best for him to go to and find some good drilling partners around his weight?

Thanks!

Send him to Big Walnut on Sunday. I will lace 'em up and roll around a bit! Although, I may only last about 1 minute at a time! Plus, we will have Coach Joel Greenlee in town! I think he can still handle himself!

Thanks John40.
Do they have guys in the upper weight classes that go to open mats?

It all depends who shows up. There are usually some upper weights that show up. Last Sunday there was a light heavy weight (I'm guessing a little over 200) he wrestled with several wrestlers. He was a collegiate wrestler, very good. There are always going to be guys there big enough to drill with and go live. Over all everyone there gets a good work out.

Went to Whitehall open mats tonight. Good crowd. There were at least 5 guys your son could have drilled and wrestle with. Whitehall usually closes the workout with a 6 minute match (no break 6 straight minutes).

John40. Thanks! He is currently without a ride as he sold his pickup. He bought a car this weekend but won't actually get it until next weekend. Hopefully he and his buddy- another college wrestler about the same weight will be out there next weekend!
