I think he understands what it means. He's expressing frustration in society at large that cares so much about the private opinions of others'. Society is just a bunch of whiny bitches. Oh no someone thinks two men kissing is weird and gross; condemn them!

Society needs to grow up and gays need to get a life.

As far as I'm concerned you should be able to speak as you wish and be as disgusting as you want to be,as long as your not in the work place. I don't consider the Miami Dolphin tweeting a few benign comments on twitter as being in the work place, but now he is suspended and must take sensitivity training. He will lose money for speaking his mind. Are you a gay Nazi?

Then don't work for an employer than penalizes you for opening your mouth and saying something stupid, if you like to open up your mouth and say stupid things. It's that simple. Not surprised it went over your head though.

You seem to want the right of free speech to be unidirectional. Condemnation of an opinion one disagrees with is also protected speech. In no case was speech intended to be guaranteed free of consequence.

Nothing went over my head. It went over your head. IMO if it's on your time and not the companies time you should be able to attend a Klan meeting or a skin head meeting or a black panther party meeting, or hate on Arabs,Jews, blacks,Chinese, or whatever. However if you are on paying time at your company you should always treat everyone with the utmost respect. The Miami Dolphin was not on company time and he is not an owner of that company. Naturally if you own a company ,you are exempt from certain freedoms ie Donald Sterling. i don't condone being a bigoted, homophobic ,racist ,asshole. I am a vetern of this country and I believe in the basic rights of the original constitution.

You may be right but we need less consequence for speaking your mind ,and instead more dialogue with each other. We need people to stop trying to shout over each other and more people to listen and be examples themselves of self respect and compassion for others. It's hard to do but in your own little world it can make your life easier. love your neighbor. Help a stranger.

I just like to provoke . In reality I am a pretty good person and have friends from all spectums ,and I do try to be a good neighbor. It's easy to be an asshole on here and sometimes it's fun.

By the way believing in peoples right to speak freely does not mean that I feel they are in the right. You are bright enough to understand that aren't you?

Sam has basically become the new Tebow in that he's a marginal NFL player who will likely not have much of a career due to how there will be a massive media contingent (and fanbase) surrounding him, which clubs tend not to want to deal with when it comes to the interchangeable pieces that compose large portions of most teams.

In the grand scheme of things, he got drafted around where he probably would have regardless of anything else and his career likely will be of around the same duration of what one might expect from a seventh rounder, but nothing will be treated as routine because of how his orientation is causing everything to become headline news.

In some ways, it's tiresome and tedious, much like virtually everything about the draft this year thanks to the longer wait. In other ways, it's comical. Especially when you can watch thavoice act like a five-year-old watching someone eat worms with his "EWWWWW!!!!" reaction and Sleeper repeat his "gays aren't special" lines so many times that he essentially singlehandedly makes this whole thing insanely talked about (and, therefore, special).

So there's that.

I agree. Here is a thought. Tebow was an NFL pariah by teams and the sports media because he was very religious. Teams avoided him like the plague even though he had some success in the NFL . Sams on the other hand will be given the utmost empathy and backing by all media sources. I wonder if he will gain a spot on a team if it is a very close competition between him and another D lineman ,even if the other man is slightly better? The irony in this will be interesting but to me predictable come this August.

His statement was that if things don't effect you, mind your own business, right?

I simply listed something that didn't effect me.

Oh! Were you going to move the goal post by changing the criteria??? Go ahead.

And "affect" is correct. Reps on Wednesday.

So it's not "mind your own business", but rather "don't have a hard stance on it". Gotcha.

I find abortion to be particularly disgusting but it has nothing to do with me. Maybe we should all just admit that some things gross us out and stop spewing cliche lines like this.

Actually I think it should be. We clearly protect one side of speech, the declaration of being gay now has protection in the work against discrimination. Why is the other side of being a bigot not protected since that is also protecting what someone does rather than who he is?

Dear Michael Sam,

I know that you are gay and I don't give a shit what your preference is, but don't invite the news media to your draft party to remind me once again for the millionth time that your gay. People will except you for who you are without having to watch you lap chops with your lover over and over again on tv. Your fellow NFL piers will be tough, please deal with it on your own like all other players do as going to the media will make it worse.

Dear Media,

Enough already, I know that Mr Sam is Gay, I personally don't give a fuck what he prefers. Please stop taking this to a level that causes others to debate if Mr Sam is right or wrong, I personally, could care less and so should we all.

Dear NFL,

Please don't fine, penalize, or suspend players of his team or opposing teams for routine smack talk or rude comments that goes on every Sunday on the field. I don't want to see anything out of the norm from the NFL just because Mr Sam is gay, equal for all, correct Roger Goodell?

Homo or hetero, who cares, live your own life and all will be well, nothing special for either.
