A little different perspective as I was there. They played 2 halfs, 1st half varsity, 2nd half JV. At the end of 1st half, it was 21-14 Mogadore. Both teams scored on long pass plays with broken coverage. Both teams were just as physical with each other. Both teams ran the ball well. It was an evenly matched scrimmage across the board and would be a nice game to see if this was a real game. Talked with some Mogadore people to see how their team would be this year, and they said they held their star RB out of the scrimmage and he did not even play. They expect this to be an extremely good year for the Mogadore team.

Any scrimmages tomorrow? had to work tonight but want to caught one tomorrow if there is one in area. Sounds like D-town might be for real, any other local updates?

Went down south to Redbird country tonight and watched my Bobcats. Redbirds took a quick 14-0 led but Norwayne started to figure some things out and the scrimage ended in a 14-14 tie. Not too bad against a strong quick and physical Redbird team, still a have some work to do but in my opinion dont count Norwayne out. Nice Oline and the Miller boy can run the ball, defense had some issue.

I am a bit mystified by the comments and opinions that Waynedale is going to be contending for the WCAL title this year. They lost one of the best mobile QB's the league has seen in quite a few years. From what I have seen at both scrimmages is lines that are undersized. QB is going to be a passer and does not move out of the pocket. That is a recipe for losing without a big line to protect. Defense has no one to stop a big back with some blockers.
there is speed at the skill positions so they will make some plays. Just don't see them handling a big, physical team.
And Triway is the real deal. If QB stays healthy, they are running the table from what I have seen. No one can keep up with them on the field with their speed.

well smithville went down to east knox last night. and after a slow start in the 10 plays section cause of a driving rain.... smithville again showed me they r very much improved!!!! again there o-line and d-line were very good again. and they had over 100 passing in two qt of play...... the final score was 13-3 but should have been 20-3, at the end of the first qr of play they called it a half time and smithville had it first and goal at the 2... so would have probably scored there as well.... there young qb is looking better and better... of course he young and has a lot to learn.... i for see there biggest concern is at tailback, they have a good fullback he took one to the house from about 40 yards to end the scoring. but they dont have a blazing tailback, im thinking there going to go with a jr there hes looked the best so far... i see them surprising a lot of people this year..... the jr class has won at ever level! they have a lot of talent in that class. we will see what happens friday night. let have a great season this year and hoping to send at least 3 teams from the county to the playoffs.... go smithies

Correction scotmich, the Jr class at Waynedale had won at every level. Undefeated in jr football both years. What changed? The boys are in the wrong positions. I agree with Havin Fun, I've been to all 3 scrimmages and do not see how Waynedale can be anywhere near the top of the WCAL this year. The loss of Weaver at QB is too much and the O line is small, young and inexperienced.

they didnt beat us as freshman so.... look it up

Yes you beat them as freshman because half that class at Waynedale was playing varsity NOT Freshman ball. The point I was really trying to make is that Strausbaugh was the QB in Jr High and still should be.

Last nights scrimmage with Crestview ended 32-7 Hillsdale. I went with low expectations and came away with a change of opinion. First I must say that the Cougar team I saw last night was the worst that I have seen in the few years that we have scrimmaged them. Hillsdale has good size on both lines. Was told average is 245 which appeared about right. QB looked much improved over last year in poise, confidence and accuracy. A couple of backs ran real well which helps take the load off Mager. Receivers fought hard for the ball in coverage and made some great plays on the ball. Line played well. On defense they had a good night and were stout on the line even against a large Cougar o-line. D-backs were pretty good in coverage and had good speed.
Hillsdale opens with Manchester, Willard, and Loudonville. Manchester and Loudonville will be real tests and both are away games. I think 2-1 to start may be difficult. The good thing about Hillsdale's schedule is that this year Waynedale, Northwestern, Norwayne and Dalton are at Hillsdale. Should be a fairly balanced WCAL and it will be interesting to see who is left standing. I do not see an outright champ this year.

which if u ask me a former coach it not a good move.... freshmen should be freshmen.. and play as freshmen inless they r able to help the varcity.... and watching that team they were lost......yes i hate waynedale..... smithville grad here...... but u have to watch smithville.... they get better and better ...... the only thing thats hold them back this year is there SR class...... if it works its self out all of u better watch out....... i know thats a lot to ask of them but i do not think there the door mats of the league this year..... if they dont go better then 500 then im to close to the team to really see whats going on....... thats just my opinion and i know the game pretty well!!!!

Here we go again...way to be supportive of the kids. Let's be honest, in jr. high he was a running back playing quarterback. We had that last year at the varsity level and we did go 6-4 but couldn't beat the good teams. Don't get me wrong...he IS our best play maker and he will be relied on to do great things for us the next 2 years. I guess we could have put him in last night when our QB was struggling, huh? WAIT....no we couldn't because he was in street clothes on the sideline. Hmmmmm.... Anyone know why he didn't play and our other playmaker didn't play?

Remember...this is NOT pee wee or junior high anymore! Everyone has caught up to these boys. It happens ALL THE TIME. We can't just do it with talent alone. We have to do it with hard work and UNWAVERING support from the parents/fans. Quit living in the past.

Keep up the great support. Way to continue to throw jabs at our coach and his QB choice. Plus, I'll bet the QB himself appreciates your support. Inexperienced line? Most of the time, 4 of the 5 on the field are returning lettermen. Please reserve your judgment until after we FINALLY play a game with our ENTIRE line-up healthy, including your grandson.

Here we go! Game week begins today. All of that summer and preseason stuff went really quickly, did it not? Looking forward to some great football games in the WCAL this fall!

I think the Daily Record has it about right. I could see Dalton, Smithville, and northwestern juggling their order some. Chippewa is probably the most talented team, but has a tough back to back on the road with Waynedale and Norwayne..

I had posted about the Bears being undersized line on both sides of the ball. I have been told that several of the bigger lineman did not participate in scrimmages and will make an impact. There is no doubt that the skill players are in place. I am going out on a limb and saying the Bears finish at 8-2 with losses to Triway and chip or Norwayne.
I expect the game at Tusky Valley tonight to be one of their toughest tests of the year with most of their starters back this year.

I find the fact that a team would hold out their "bigger lineman", or impact lineman out of scrimmages a little fishy, or just plain dumb. It is critical an offensive line play under game conditions to build cohesiveness, and gel. If this is truly the case, then makes no sense, but I think it's more like BS!

I was told there were injuries to some linemen and one is still out? I don't know other than the scrimmages I saw the linemen were small. Looking in the football preview they were all 200+ lbs.
We shall see? Any scores or reports on games? I heard Falcons, Bears, Chipps and Bobcats won. How did smithville and dalton and NW do?

From what I can gather, all the WCAL teams won tonight except for Dalton.

snuck past!!!! we owned them in the second half..... down 27 15 at the half.... and won 36-33..... thats not sneaking past them...... we played like its the first game of the year...... then you could see them start to believe, and then out scored them 21-6 in the second half....... number 11 had over 100 yards receiving.... and two td's and 2, 2 point plays. and there So QB look like a three year starter, had over 100 yards rushing.. and over 100 yards passing and for the most part put the ball where it needed to be..... again i am not saying we will contend for the league title... but we are way way better then last year.
