I am not a big hockey guy, but I like the New Years Day classic the NHL has done the past few years playing a hockey game outside at a big stadium.

Here is a link to the video ESPN put up of them setting up the rink and such. It seems like it would be a really cool thing to see if you were in Boston and a big hockey fan.

Pretty sweet video. Probably the best configuration you could have where the rink is at.

Monster seats would be awesome for that

I wanted to get seats to this so bad, but they sold out reeeeally fast and the cheapest you can find online are $250/each. Lame. I'll just go get drunk and watch bowl games and hockey at one of the bars next door.

I always watch some of this game too. I dont ever watch hockey except maybe the Stanley Cup finals. Remember the year it snowed? Chicago, I believe. That was cool to watch.

I've only ever been to one hockey game, and that was a long time ago, but isn't the whole point that the fans are really close to the action? That looks like it would suck having to sit in those baseball seats and try to see a hockey game 300+ feet away.

You might be glad you got shut out. Isn't Boston supposed to get hit with a New Years Day blizzard with bitterly cold temps? Should make for interesting viewing...

I kind of hope that happens as it would be awesome to watch. It seems like the kind of weather an out-door hockey game should be played in and I bet the fans/players would love it.

That'd be cool, but I think having Ovi in it would be good for ratings, plus the Rags have a bunch of stars too. Minnesota is kind of an unknown team amongst casual fans. Maybe they are alternating between East and West teams though, so Minnesota would make sense if that's the case. Hockey is big there. I wonder who they'd play. Maybe they'd bring the Stars back up.

I was trying to think of where it would be next, I was figuring it would be in Canadia. Leafs vs Habs or something like that.

Expecting around 2-4 inches between tonight and tomorrow AM -- should be perfect for the game!

The reason it might be Minnesota is becasue, they've alternated conferences each year. In 2008 it was a eastern conference game, in 2009 it was a western conference game, then this year it's an eastern conference game. See the pattern?

Plus, all of the history Minnesota has with hockey. The rumoured oppontet is the Dallas Stars (Minnesota North Stars).

That's exactly what I said!!!! So, yes I see the pattern....:sleepy:

The Canadians are gonna be pissed if they don't stick one up there soon. Calgary vs. Vancouver, Toronto Vs Monteal...

I was at the Winter Classic last year in Chicago to watch the Wings and Blackhawks and it was incredible. In hindsight, being in the upper deck is probably the best place to be but I could see pretty much everything and I was about 7 rows from the field.

I don't think they necessarily are rotating the game by conference but I would bet the Rangers playing in Yankee Stadium would be a good bet for next year. If it were up to me, only Original 6, teams from Canada, and historical franchises would be allowed to play in this and so far they have kept to that. I personally would love to see the Red Wings play Toronto or Montreal in Michigan Stadium with 100,000 plus there. Fenway is a great choice for this year and I saw a view from the Green Monster and it was just incredible.

I watch this game every year. A great event for the fans, and the players seem to love the old school playing outside like when they were kids.

My bad. It'd be nice to see a double header on New Years day. We all have to remember that it's all up to NBC who they want to showcase.

The plan I keep hearing is to actually have two outdoor games each season, one being exclusive to the Canadian teams for Hockey Day in Canada in early Feb. Wouldn't be surprised if Vancouver @ Calgary is it for next year. They tried to do it this year, but it was too short of notice.
