we are increasingly denying people the ability to pursue happiness, following policies that do not promote the general welfare or make us the constantly promised land of opportunity.

The land of opportunity isn't a given. Anyone can pursue happiness. That comes in a variety of forms. Opportunity isn't a right.

You are offereing things that have never happend. I wish you luck in trying to stop such activities. The facts are that history shows a pattern of large wealth adapting. Massive government action in the U.S. won't have any different results.

American history has shown that when government is committed to minimizing maldistribution of wealth it can be successful.

1. The truly wealthy will leave. There's no reason for them to participate.

2. Those that lead the government participate in crony capitalism and have no incentive to commit to such an effort.

I wish you luck if you are banking on such a thing happening. You're going to need it.

I made no mention of what anyone says. Opportunity is not nor has it ever been a right. Pursuing opportunity is.

If the wretched continue to come here it's because opportunity still exists. According to you we are dwindling that opportunity down.

You are speculating in hope. Such legislative actions would never be kept secret. We are far from an "extreme crisis". Lol I wish you luck in your hope. You are going to need it.

Birthrate decline, immigration shrinks as the portals of opportunity shrink. US ranks near the bottom for social mobility of the industrialization nations. The rich get richer, the rest get screwed. And under Reagan\Bush it just gets worse.

I bet a lot of people were saying that in September, 1929. The signs were out there, but ignored. And one of the biggest mal distribution of wealth.

Exactly. Just as I stated except that it will continue to take place no matter who's in the White House. You might think it gets worse with a particular philosophy in the White House but it still exists...and will continue to do so.

Probably. We may get there one day again but we aren't there yet. Best of luck to you and those who are counting on such an "extreme crisis" to mobilize government commitment to legislative restriction on the wealthy. You are a long ways from it right now.

no sir or m'am as the case maybe. If this President had the kind of majorities in Congress FDR had in 1933-34 who could do something about the situation. The gerrymandered House of Representatives has him hamstrung.

"If" plays into the equation. He doesn't have the kind of majority he would need. It's a factor that lends to the continuation of the wealthy continue to accumulate assets.

aways maybe, but not as far as you think. Have you ever noticed the poll numbers on issue of raising taxes on the rich, the feeling is there, it just needs channeled.

It is exactly how far I think because how far I think is that it's not today. Of that I am certain.

It will take a lot more than simply raising taxes on the rich. Big wealth creation doesn't come from income.

every movement has its beginning. Look who is pushing to do something about the mal distribution of wealth, not just the progressives, Obama. Now you have the man of the Year, Pope Francis.

Just I said, we aren't there yet. The wealthy continue to get wealthier. I hope for your sake this the beginning to your prophesy as you claim. SOunds like that's the only hope for those in need of such an economic revolution.
