The only part I really find overly interesting about it all is just the simple concept that a PR exec (you know, PR...that whole thing about drumming up public support/approval for a product or service) would be stupid enough to publicly say anything that mindbogglingly dumb, being what they should be the people who are most knowledgeable about the power of words and how quick stuff spreads.

Overreaction? She's the PR (as in Public Relations) Executive for her company. I honestly can't think of a way to have worse public relations than tweeting stupid as shit that not only brings up race issues, but is making fun of an epidemic in Africa.

People always claim how great twitter is for receiving instant news. I think it can be useful if used properly and I could understand that line of logic. But for the most part it just seems like a platform for idiots to have verbal diarrhea.

While what she said was awful, and she deserved to be fired as a PR executive. I don't think people expressing that is an overreaction. I have that same opinion but I don't let her comment actually bother me nor did I spend more than the roughly 60 seconds it took to write this post so it's not really having an effect on my daily life.

People used to just get on celebrities (actors, athletes, etc.) or politicians for saying stupid shit. But now that even the "common" person has a pulpit (twitter) we can see that there is no lack of people willing to say dumb ass shit that should get you in trouble with your employer.

You wouldn't fire her if she was representing your company?

It sounds like something Tosh would say during a stand up. It's pretty insane that this lady did this.

No doubt she should have been fired. I would have fired her if she were my PR exec. But it still isn't newsworthy.

Agreed. Also, this country is full of pussies...it was stupid to say, but I say way worse things about every 5 minutes

That could also be the difference between things you can say with your close friends or family versus things that shouldn't be broadcast in a public manner (i.e. twitter).

This was my point. I didn't realize or care that she was fired...the fact that it was deemed newsworthy and then OCers get up in arms about the un give a damn is hilarious.

I had some order4 to spend some time in africa, and they fell through, but we did get some briefs on how big the AIDS epidemic was. Think it was around 50% of the women 18-24 or something like that...

I am guessing the NY Daily News has some bright writers and editors. I didnt realize OC'ers were MORE knowledgeable about what is news?
