The timing may have been funny but would it have been any better for Weber if they had waited a week to make the announcement? Or a month? Should every player be able to change their mind if their position coach moves on? It seems to be like there is a fair amount of turnover/advancement among assistant coaches. I wonder if there are any stats about the average time a position coach stays at one place or how many players have the same position coach all through college?
I think the issue is more how they recruit the kids and tell them certain things, then leave. Some of them are outright lying, knowing they are leaving or at least interviewing, but selling the recruit on them being their coach.

I think that's why Weber feels slighted.

That's fair. Like I said, I don't like what happened, and it's a bad look for OSU no matter whether some think it's fair or not. However, whining in public is a bad look for Wilcher and Weber. Just wonder what the kid will do if he doesn't ever get to be a starter at OSU? Might be more trouble than he is worth at this point, especially for a team that is pretty deep at RB already. This will all soon be forgotten about and both parties will continue on. This kind of stuff doesn't hurt schools like OSU, just look at the stories about what Bama, LSU, and other schools have done to kids in the past, and their recruiting is still strong as ever.

Agree.

Supposedly they may discuss their options of going elsewhere. What an odd recruitment this would be if he ends up not at OSU or UM.

Not suggesting anything, but at this point is tOSU's option to release him or not, or can they release him with certain schools excepted?

It's interesting, and I haven't seen anyone really address that. If any kind of transfer rules apply, he would have to pay his own way to another B1G school.

centralbucksfan;1703826 wrote:Yup and most of the time, the parents and advisors are more unrealistic than the kids are. Hey I get it, all I am saying is that Weber has a right to be upset. I don't care for his coach doing what he is doing. That isn't going to help anyone. But as far as the kid is concerned, I feel for him. Yes, its the nature of the beast. And he will be ok no matter what happens.
I am as big an OSU fan as anyone. But this doesn't go over well with me. Maybe more to the story ( I did read where Drayton didn't interview until yesterday and was hired). So who knows.
This is how I feel. I don't really care that this happens everywhere, I expect Ohio State to be above what everyone else does. I'd rather them lose out on a kid than do something that isn't right just to get them because Ohio State isn't dependant on one player to be successful. It doesn't matter if Mile Weber came to Ohio State or not they'll still compete for national championships. They probably were especially wanting him because going to Michigan was the other option, but I'd rather them do right by the kid than get him under false assumptions. That kind of shit will catch up to you.

Mike Weber seems like a head case. If he wants to go, he should be granted a full release. Wash our hands of him.
The butthurt from Michigan fans concerning this kid is hilarious.

Wilcher is acting like a baby. One he should have talked to weber after he talked to Meyer. two, that moron set up a secret visit for weber to UM. So it's really interesting that he's the one talking here..

I had read his coaches wanted him to go to Michigan. I wonder if that's why he is so upset and making such a scene.

I don't see too many UM fans butthurt. Most have moved on and actually agree with you on being a head case.

Has to be, doesn't it. Otherwise I think this is being blown up too much.

Bigger deal is Harbaugh backing out of talking to Ohio high school coaches today. Not sure why he'd do that. Since Ohio is important to um for recruiting.

I see this as Wilcher making it bigger than it is in an attempt to start/revamp a Cass Tech pipeline to Michigan. IMO, he wouldn't mind the notoriety of being a Ted Ginn type. Wilcher played for Michigan, gotta be pretty embarassing for him to have so good players going to OSU.

Ohio State holds all 52 cards in the deck. They can do what they please in terms of releasing him from the LOI, releasing him conditioned on not going to certain schools/conferences, etc.

Other than any conditions upon release, once he's released he can go wherever.
